Hispanic Heritage Month: Keeping It Simple

To conclude our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re highlighting consumer.gov, a site that features consumer protection basics, plain and simple.

Consumer.gov is written in a straight-forward style that is easy to use. The site tells you what you should know and do about a range of topics—from understanding credit to managing debt, opening a bank account to using prepaid phone cards, and avoiding  identity theft to money wiring scams.

Information is presented in a variety of formats for people with different learning styles. For example, each article is available in English and Spanish and has an accompanying audio narration. And we use short videos and illustrations to explain complex topics.

If you’re helping others in your community—maybe you’re teaching English, providing legal advice, or helping someone find social services—we’ve complied some resources specifically for you. You’ll find presentations, quizzes, worksheets and more—all of which you can download for free.

And if you prefer to have hard copies of the articles, we have those, too. You can order free, one-page fact sheets in English and Spanish.
