Sensa buyers gain refund checks

Close to half a million people who bought Sensa, a sprinkle-on weight loss product, will share more than $26 million in refunds, thanks to the FTC. The money comes from the FTC’s settlement with Sensa’s marketers, who said their powder would help people lose weight. According to the FTC, the company didn’t have the scientific evidence they needed to back up the claims.

The FTC is mailing checks to eligible consumers this week, and checks must be cashed within 60 days. If you have questions about the refunds, call 1-800-420-2914, or visit the FTC’s Sensa refunds page. And remember, the FTC never requires people to pay money or give personal information before they cash a refund check.

If you’re seeing more ads for health and weight loss products, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • The most effective way to lose weight is to eat fewer calories and get more exercise. Claims that you can lose weight without changing habits simply aren’t true.
  • Research the company or the product before you make a decision to buy. Make your own decision about how much you want to rely on a testimonial or endorsement.
  • Experts say some claims — like “eat what you want and still lose weight” — just can’t be true. Your habits and health concerns are unique, so team up with your health care provider to design a program that suits your lifestyle.

I had ordered Sensa one time and couldn't get my money back when i complained. Do you have the names of customers from Sensa records\

I used that product for a tiny bit but I got my money back it never worked!

I took sansa an anything that was wright loss for a number of years,I STOPED 2 years,an only use honey now,I don't take anything that says Wright loss or low sugar, the only thing that works for me is eating the right food an walking,

my name is stella mcdaniel and I have purchased a Senae

I too used Sensa and it never did a thing for me, except maybe gain a few EXTRA unwanted pounds... I hope we get our money back! :)

I was not aware of the Sensa issues. I purchased this product several times if not more

I used the original Sensa when it first came out and I did lose 50lbs Then they switched to Sensa for Men and I gained it all back. It didn't work the second time.

This is great and all BUT.... How in the hell do you register or provide proof of purchase to receive a refund?

Nice job on the finer details, FTC. EPIC FAIL.

Don't bother calling the 800# - their "system" is down and all they do is send you to the FTC website and search for "sensa". Again EPIC FAIL.

I was buying sensa

I also tried to get a refund to no avail. I ended up throwing it away BUT I received a check today! Thank you FTC!!!

How do I make sure my husband and I both get refunds for our purchases?

I use Sensa a couple yrears ago and I didn’t get a refund.

I used Sensa and never lost a pound did all the shakes as it was required. I got my check today and thank you FTC. Great job!

Wasn't aware of the lawsuit but got my check today, kudos FTC. Would have lost more weight by sprinkling sawdust on my food. I gave Sensa a try knowing it was a shot in the dark and willing to lose a few bucks in case it didn't work. Didn't work AND got my money back - WIN. Especially around Christmas. Fortune cookie was right on, maybe I should play the lottery numbers on it, ya think?

So the checks are good? I'm so cautious and everything is a scam these days lol. Great then!

It's good to be skeptical, but these checks are legit:

Thank you Nicole. Always better to double check

I just got a check of $55.41 from the FTC, I bought sense back in 2011 I didn't know about this until today, when I bought their product back in 2011 it cost me around $90 so I call their customer services for a refund and they did it, I got my money back plus a sweet $55.41 three years later. This was like a litle investment in a scam company that finally pay off.

I used Sensa last year and never lost any weight. I was able to cancel but no refund. Thanks FTC...Great work!!

got my check today

I hate no idea FTC had sued. Received a check today, went to the pantry, saw all the remainder of the Sensa (about four months worth) and threw them away. The first two months never worked so I just wrote it off as a foolish wish. Thanks FTC.

Hi Jo, just to clarify you were not aware of any lawsuit and did not file a claim form and still got a check? I ask because I have not received anything in the mail regarding this suit spent quit a lot of money on Sensa but no check. Hoping I still have a chance to get some of my money back. Thanks Ve

I also purchased Sensa off ShopNBC. Was notified by ShopNBC that their was a lawsuit against i got on FTC site early on to watch progress of suit...surely knowing since i spent over $600.00 i would be sent a check...nope, name not even on the list apparently so had to give my name and number to customer service...and wait 90 days for a response. I am about 30 days in...wonder why some got a check and didn't have to do anything and some haven't. I can prove it! Maybe it's because it didn't purchase online??? But through TV would think ShopNBC would have given the FTC all of our names who purchased it through them!!! WAITING!!

I also purchased Sensa from ShopNBC. I was never able to find anything about the refund process after being informed by ShopNBC of the lawsuit. I wonder if ShopNBC (now ShopHQ)ever released the names of the customers who bought Sensa from them to the FTC. After reading the press release, I understand that there will not be any more refund checks mailed out. Hopefully that will change, but I don't have any faith in the process or the system used to issue the refunds. It seems to only work for a selected few. About a month ago, I also called customer service and left my name and number, but I don't hold out much hope in ever getting a refund. Time will tell.

they didn't give me all the money back...I paid 260 and I just have 55 dolllars Back.Any ways I am Glad It is legit. lol.

You didn't get all your money back cause the LAWYERS are ALWAYS the big winners here. They got most of the money.

In 2014, the FTC mailed  477,083 refund checks totaling $26,023,329 week to consumers who bought the sprinkle-on weight-loss supplement Sensa. In 2018, the FTC mailed a second round of checks to people who were misled by deceptive ads for the sprinkle-on weight loss supplement Sensa.

Thanks FTC. Didn't know about the lawsuit. Got my check today

I received my check today

bought this product, wasted my money made me put on weight instead of losing it. I am not sure if this is a scam or if the refund check is real. got my check yesterday not sure if I will cash it or destroy it, maybe it's a scam.

These checks are legitimate. You received it as part of an FTC settlement with Sensa. Here’s the press release for more information. You have 60 days to cash it.

I received my check today. It was a partial refund. I wonder if we will ever get the full amount refunded? I will be calling 1-800-420-2914.

The average amount each consumer will receive is $54, but may differ based on how much they lost.

Yeah, this company was a huge scam. They tried to use fine print to rip me off cash for a product that didn't do it. I called and yelled at them for a bit, and they didn't charge me what they were trying to scam me out of. I thought this matter was closed... and out of nowhere received a check today for like $55... I'll take it...

I tried and paid for a 3 month supply initially but when I tried to cancel the "subscription" they kept billing me and sending me more product that I didn't want. They wouldn't take my calls and kept putting me on hold for hours. I was finally was able to get through to someone but by then I had 5 months of unwanted supply and over $200 which they had deducted from my credit card account. They told me they couldn't take my product back except the last month because it was past the 30 day return policy. I still have 4 boxes of unopened product which they refuse to take back and give me my money back for.

FTC, thank you for the refund check by the way. I just wish they would give me the rest of my money that they stole back.

I thought that the Sensa program was it for me until noticing that the weight wasn't going anywhere. To discontinue use of the so-called magical sprinkles it became an idea since there were no results. since then, the thought of loosing funds faded and was forgotten. It really did hurt. The bank doesn't trust it so there's a delay on it. If it clears, that would be remained to be seen.

This website is convenient and saves time on phone use and allow users to express the pain and agony of false products. I would recommend this site for those who feel unsure of receiving their funds back from a product source of unreliability.

Thank you

Just got a refund check fr $55

been checking this site once a month for info, now I see it and it is too late to apply for refund or I just can't find the link. I would think this was handled better. I got the notice from ShopHQ this was happening, but since my mom who purchased the product moved last year, not holding my breath she will see the check.

The FTC has established a hotline for consumers who have questions about this matter and want to contact the redress administrator. It is 1-800-420-2914.

I received my check today. Hope it is legit?
