The FTC gets Rachel the Robocaller… again

Have you gotten pre-recorded sales calls from Rachel from Cardholder Services? Or Bank Card Services or Credit Assistance Program? You’ve been reporting these illegal calls, and the FTC continues to take action.

Today, the FTC and the state of Florida announced a lawsuit against Life Management Services, a company that the FTC says is behind hundreds of thousands of these calls.

According to the FTC, Life Management Services swindled people out of their money by offering two types of phony debt relief: credit card interest rate reduction services and credit card debt elimination services. The company promised lower interest rates or government funds to pay off debt, and asked people to make initial payments ranging from $500 to $20,000. But almost no one got the help that was promised.

This is one of six recent FTC cases that focus on illegal robocalls. How does the FTC build these cases? One critical tool is the FTC’s honeypot -- a large bank of phone lines designed to attract robocalls. That lets FTC investigators interact with robocallers, record the calls, and make undercover purchases. The FTC uses its honeypot to identify companies placing illegal calls and collect evidence of their illegal activities. It was particularly useful in the Life Management case announced today.

So, what do you do if you get another unwanted robocall?

  • Hang up. Don’t respond in any way. Pressing buttons to get you taken off a list could result in more unwanted calls.
  • Block the caller’s number. You have a few options for blocking unwanted calls, including call-blocking devices, mobile apps, cloud-based services, and services provided by your phone carrier.
  • Report it to the FTC at or 1-888-382-1222.

Yeah. This is awesome. So glad to see this action. Was getting these calls for over 12 months on my cell and at home.

I've been getting calls on my cell research hone for over a year now and am glad to know that I can now report them!

Well, it is the end of November now, and what relief has the FCC given us? I am STILL getting the calls- in spite of my cell number being on the do not call list. Also, there really is no way to report the calls to the FCC. In order to do so, you have to enter the phone number you are getting the calls from. Since Cardholder Services spoofs the phone number (uses software so that a fake number shows up on our phones), we really don't know what number to report. Every call I get from them shows a different phone number. And it is not a real number you can call back. I also can't get the calls stopped from the fake car warranty service telling me my warranty has expired. What is the point of a Do Not Call List??

Yes, I am still getting a call from Rachel from card holders. Got one last week. Been getting them for years.

I have gotten 3 calls in the last 3 hours. So apparently this is a bogus article.

Been receiving Rachel calls for years! Six calls yesterday 6/4/2018. I have filed hundreds of complaints to the FCC. It is pointless and useless to report any number.

The calls keep rolling in...nothing has changed, nothing will. Numbers are spoofed. Just hang up nothing you can do to stop this. They have now started using Local numbers instead of some far away area code.

Yes, I got one of these calls with a local spoofed number this morning. I answered it, thinking it was a local call. I hung up after listening to part of the robocall message,

You are so right.

Yyou took the words right out of my mouth. They are a horrible and it doesn't stop. Someone is making a lot of money or else they would be gone!!!

Had my life threatened by one of them today. Called the FTC to report, entered all the information, then the recording told me that the info did not go through. Re- try.......Really...can this not stop!

I’ve been getting these calls - different numbers every time - but the same guy on the line. He wanted my name and when I said no, he said “why can’t I have your name baby?” When I asked to be taken off or to talk to the manager he told me how rude it was to not politely give my name to people when I greet them. He was harassing and would not take me off. I’ve been blocking numbers for a long time. I can’t wait until this issue gets resolved.

The point of the Do Not Call List is to pacify us little people (non-ruling class citizen) to make us think the government cares about our needs and has our best interests in mind with their benevolence ruling actions. All the while the leaders of these government regulatory organizations they gain their appointments as because of their insider knowledge they have from their jobs at the very same business that are taking advantage of us. Same thing happens at every regulatory agency of our federal government.

The FTC does nearly ZERO to stop these calls. Most of them today use spoofed numbers so you can't simply block the number because they'll call you again tomorrow using another area code and number. AT&T claims the can't tell who the callers really are. This is bull. Clearly the government has the technology to find out who these people are. They should be given 20 year prison sentences. This will never end until the price in pain for these robocallers is too high for them.

What about blowing a very loud whistle into the phone to damage their hearing?

John, you can't affect the hearing of a robocall? There is no live person with this type of call, it's a recorded message, you would have to go thru the full phone recording to get to a person, and then if you do respond or "blow a whistle" you are going to be annoyed by more of their calls. Make Sense?

People have tried blowing these jerks' ears off, it does not work, unfortunately. Someone on here said it best. Just hang up and don't say anything. The scammers are using pirated numbers to spoof with so Nomorobo does not work anymore.

Use an air horn

March 7th - just got a call from
Credit Card Services. The FTC is
not really doing much as I have had
these guys call twice a week since
2011.......Thanks FTC and NYS.

These ARE LIVE people asking where is my husband or servant and telling me to shut up. So the FTC does NOT know what it is talking about. Why should the FTC sue these companies? It is NOT them being harassed. Where is the victims compensation?

This article is either a lie or obviously didn't help. I still keep getting Rachel from cardholder services autobot calling with local phone numbers on the ID. Just got one this morning. Nice try bragging about a victory that didn't really happen!

Have you seen your own phone number calling you? And it is either Rachel or Veronica from cardholder's services. I'd like to get their phone numbers! If the FCC could do something, they would have already done it.

change your number!

They're ROBO calls! They pick random numbers, changing your number will do nothing.

I am not going to change my phone number that I have had for 19 years.

I'm getting loads of calls from this witch. All coming from local numbers so they're running a spoofing scam. I actually got a call from my own damned number. I just silence the ringer and carry on with what I'm doing. No point in getting upset because there's nothing to be done about it.

Fake news. These robocalls never even slow down. They pay the swamp to much money. The swamp loves this cash flow.

Yes about lottery and to donate and sponsor breast cancer reasearch

This just made my day ! Can we do a class action lawsuit for damages done to the public ? I just hung up on a home security monitoring scam THAN YOU for getting these calls stopped !

I too want to know about a class action been harassed fo 2 decades!

Thanks for the information. Very helpful.

Thank you for alerting me to these issues.

Took u long enough again FTC. The whole reason why the do not call list stopped doing its job is because the government layed off workers and didn't hire enough to keep the do not call list working like it did 11 years or so ago when it worked like clockwork and would have caught and stopped Rachel from card holder services quicker then it took u to do it now. Hire more workers, give a tax break to the phone companies if they do more to stop these calls from happening, and let us consumers post call blockers on here

Go FTC. may the officers of Life Management Services be charged, convicted and sentenced with more than just a fine and slap on the wrist. Life would be fine with me---and there would be a bit of poetic justice in that. too bad it won't happen. but i can still wish.

I thought they were doing what they said they would do about my credit card debt, when the collection agency letters and phone calls stopped. Last week I received letters from 2 different agencies wanting to collect. When I called KWP, the Florida Atty. Gen. and FTC message greeted me with the news that KWP and 12 other associated businesses had been shut down for several violations. They took my money and ruined my credit rating. All while wishing me a blessed day.

Glad to hear this. The phony "Microsoft" calls from India also need to go.

When "Microsoft" calls, I start laughing into the phone, and don't stop until they hang up, which they do pretty fast.

I am so happy that something is finally being done, about these incessant, annoying, illegal fraudulent calls! The "Microsoft" company, from India, has been annoying me for three years, now!!! I love it when they tell me that my computer has been sending them error messages, when I hadn't turned it on for months! They will not stop pestering me! I get Robo calls so often, that I do not answer the phone, if I don't recognize the number! The caller ID says the call is from some distant state, usually. That's pretty poor. Now that this is being brought to light, more so, I'm recording all of their numbers, name of the company, and the persons name and reporting it to the FTC/Do Not Call program.

I tried putting a block on but they use different numbers and it never ends i get about 5 calls a day. Its torture.

I've got a thousand of these over 10 years. Nothing stops then. Except changing your phone number, and never giving it to anyone but immediate family. Especially not your bank or especially, credit cards.

That works for a while.

Lawsuits against the FTC helped only slightly and temporarily.

Thank you so much!

Go get them. We have been getting calls from Bridgett for at least a year. I am constantly putting the numbers in my block calls however as your site says they call from many different phone numbers. Maybe the latest action will stop them as I have not had one in a couple of days. These were coming every day! Please stay on top of this. What else can we do to help. Many thanks.

Bless any and all who finally got Bridget, Rachel, and the many more from "cardholder services", yes it took 3 years, but, I didn't feel I could even use my house phone anymore, and then it started on cell phones too, ugh. My advice, keep blocking the calls, when it fills up just delete them all, and keep blocking, it really does help.

We get calls from Rachel every month and Diane, too, wanting to schedule carpet cleaning. I always hang up.

I am so glad to hear that you have "done Rachel in". So tired of getting those disgusting calls.

Thank you, thank you & thank you!!! You can't imagine the positive impact you guys at the FTC are having on the quality of our lives! Please continue the good work!!!

Go after the phone companies who pass out the phone numbers to the robocallers. If you know who pays the bill... You got 'em.

If you are a registered voter, ALL of your info (name, address, phone number, birthday) is legally public information.
You probably passed out your OWN phone number (maybe to that random stranger outside of the grocery store who was "just trying to get people registered to vote")

Just wish they could develop an APP or a blocking procedure that could distinguish between the legitimate robocalls (doctors confirming appointments, community emergency reverse 911, etc.) and the scam calls. Currently, blocking one type also carries the consequence of blocking the other.

Great news. These calls came on regular basis. Thank you
