Refunds for Kevin Trudeau’s victims

Hundreds of thousands of people who bought Kevin Trudeau’s book “The Weight Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About” after watching his deceptive infomercials will get money back, thanks to the FTC.

Kevin Trudeau’s run-ins with the FTC began back in the late 90’s when he agreed to settle an FTC charge that he hosted a series of deceptive infomercials designed to look like radio and TV news interviews. But Trudeau didn’t change his ways after the settlement. Instead, he claimed in a new infomercial – without any proof – that “Coral Calcium Supreme” could treat or cure cancer and other diseases.  In 2004, the FTC had him banned from infomercials. But Trudeau used a narrow exception in the ban to promote a new item: a book about a weight loss plan.

In the ads, Trudeau claimed that the weight loss plan outlined in the book was easy to follow, could be done at home, and allowed people to eat whatever they wanted. However, when people purchased the book, they discovered it described a complex plan that required near-starvation level dieting, daily injections of a prescription drug that consumers could not easily get, and lifelong restrictions on what people could eat.

In 2009, a federal judge ordered Trudeau to repay consumers millions of dollars for violating the 2004 court order. However, he claimed he was completely broke and couldn’t afford to repay consumers – although he lived in an expensive home and he spent lavishly on jewelry, cigars, and other luxury goods.  After more court proceedings, the FTC located millions of dollars Trudeau hid, and we continue to search for more.

As for the millions already found, it’s coming back to the people who paid for the book. If you get a check, deposit or cash it as soon as possible. You may receive more money in the future.  And as for Trudeau, his violations led to a 10-year prison sentence.

If you have questions about your refund, contact the FTC’s refund administrator at 844-828-4437. And remember, the FTC never requires you to pay money or give financial information to get a refund check.

This is not funny. To spend all that amount of money only to be scammed.

i agree

I could not afford any of the stuff the book said I needed to use. So I did absolutely nothing about my weight. But I thought it was just me. This is the first I heard anything when I received the check in the mail.....

Shouldn't have spent the money in the first place. I'm not being sarcastic...people need to stop being turbo consumers and believing the lies - which are obvious!

TruthSeerker, There are people out here that bought the book as a last result. To lose the weight that they have been trying to in a life time.

I just deposited the $4.95 check, only to be returned insufficient fun and my bank charged me 12.00. How crazy is that and a big rip off from these people they send you the check but there is no money in the account. I have no way of getting in touch with them and I lost 12.00 in the process. I don't know who is the bigger thief the FTC or Kevin Trudeau. They don't even have $4.95 in their account. I had to pay 12.00 for their BOUNCED check. You people are such BIG THIEVES. This is disgraceful.

This could be a bank error. Please call 1-844-828-4437, press 0 to speak to an agent, and explain that your check bounced. We will investigate the issue, and if it was a bank error, we will re-issue the check and refund you for any bank fees.

The check bounced in my account too. I was also charged a 12.00 returned check fee.

i gained 100 lbs and can not get it off i thought i read something wrong im so ashamed to even go out of the house a refund aint good enough for me we all should get thousands for hurting are ego and are bodys life is to short

That prison rest will give him more time to write more books. I understand he writes better from that residence.

Good job & thanks for the great work. Unfortunately, Kevin Trudeau is an example of why civil judgments, settlements, etc., aren't a strong deterrent (and why "suspending" payment of judgments is not a good idea - these guys always have assets hidden somewhere). These con men really need criminal prosecution. It's also really important that the FTC (and state AG's) have easily searchable databases of all these con men they get judgments against - so the public can be aware.
At this point, it sounds like Trudeau lied about his assets (probably under oath). Try and convince DOJ to go after this guy for perjury, if nothing else. But, keep up

Id like my money back, but never kepy receipt, who knew id need it..????? A Bunch of Hog Wash.....

You don't need a receipt to get a refund. The FTC just mailed hundreds of thousands of checks to people who bought the book. If you have questions, you can call the refund administrator at 1-844-828-4437.

So glad I checked out this website to make sure this check I received was legit! I'll cash it now.

I did the exact same thing DPJ!

Apparently you don't nred it. I got a check out of the blue. The FTC apparently can find out who bought the book.

You got a check as a result of a federal government lawsuit against Kevin Trudeau for deceptive advertising. As part of the court proceedings, the FTC got the names and addresses of people who bought the book via the infomercial. We used that information to send the checks.

I purchased my book at a re-sale book store. How do I submit a claim?

The checks the FTC sent are the result of a federal government lawsuit against Kevin Trudeau for false advertising. As part of the court proceedings, the FTC got the names and addresses of people who bought the book via an infomercial. The people who bought the book via the infomercial received the checks.

What if we receive a check but weren't able to cash it. I missed the Void after date can you guys resend me the check.

You can contact the FTC’s refund administrator at 844-828-4437.

I got a refund check and I never bought the book nor did anyone in my family.

I got a cheque too without buying a book! Think this is a scam to try to obtain your banking information '

The checks sent by the Federal Trade Commission are not a scam. For more information about the refund process, visit ftc.gov/trudeau. If you have questions about your refund, contact the FTC’s refund administrator at 844-828-4437.

This guy is so dangerous as people are so desparate to find magic cures. Hopefully, by the time his next book comes out, everyone will be wise to him. He has hurt a lot of people.

The book I ordered came out several years ago.

Not as dangerous as the federal government who succeeds to scamming millions of tax payers every year out of their hard earned income. They are harming more people by taking away their means to sustain themselves by overtaxation. I'm living in my car, no benefits and work but since it's considered part time I cannot qualify for benefits and still owe taxes every year plus Obamacare. So his 5 dollar books, full of information which you can just google anyways is not all that harmful. The government is just going after him for the money they are making off his case which is legalized extortion, and consumers like us only get a small check. I've spent thousand dollars or more over a decade ago on some infomercial service/product through someone else but they never got convicted and I never got my refund.

In the age of the Internet it is hard for me to understand why this guys history of fraud was not more widely advertised so his future victims would not spend their hard earned dollars on his other schemes. I read about scams by people like this and I also watch a great many shows that tell the stories of some of these people. I also read the daily newspaper in our city from the front page to the last. While I am thankful this guy was caught and finally put in prison, I have to wonder why he wasn't jailed at the time he was supposed to settle with his first bunch of fraud victims. I really can't figure out why he admitted what he had done, refunded the victims money, but was not criminally prosecuted then. I, as everyone else, am happy he is finally in a place (presumably he can't do anything from Prison) where he cannot continue to perpetrate more frauds on innocent victims.

YAH I DID BUY THE BOOK, READ IT, PUT IT ON A SHELF NEXT TO OTHER BOOKS PURCHASED AND READ ONCE. NO ONE SHOULD CAST THE FIRST STONE UNLESS THEY ARE TRULY PURE OF ANY WRONG DOING. LIKE THE WAY I SEE IT, I HAD THE OPTION TO RETURN THE BOOK, BUT I DIDN'T. MY CHOICE. THERE WAS THE OPTION. SEE THIS ALL THE TIME IN PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY AND IN PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THIS COUNTRY.

Good news, FTC. So glad you had success. He always looked too confident to be honest.

He should have received more than ten years in prison.

way to go, FTC !

Thank you for this information.

I saw him on American Greed earlier this year. You can run but you can't hide.

It just makes me shake my head. People have received less time in prison for murder, however when you mess with big medicine markets you really get slammed. Keeping weight off is a lifestyle not a miracle cure. Is what he did any worse than the lies and misinformation we get from the same quasi governmental, governmental, banking and political venues? I suspect that this is moreover a scapegoat practice to keep others from revealing alternate methods versus high cost industry remedies. If he used puffery to sell most companies should be closed down and many of our Government agencies should be scrutinized and held responsible for doing the same. There is no mention as to how much the agencies get for this witch hunt. Im sure it was worth the while. Most consumers will most likely not see a dime.

The FTC is mailing checks totaling approximately $6.3 million to consumers who bought Kevin Trudeau’s book. In 2009, a federal judge ordered Trudeau to repay millions of dollars to consumers after he violated a 2004 FTC stipulated order by misrepresenting the book’s content.

I agree with the comment of messing with big medicine however they get away with it all day long and every day! After all if they cured, where would their revenue stream go? I put Trudeau up there with the great deceivers as is big pharma! We are lied to all the time about weight loss and fitness etc. I was deceived to until I was schooled in nutrition and how much you need for each day! You're surely not going to get it from the four food groups as your Dr will tell you! What a laugh! I was near death from Chemo treatments in Dec 2015 and decided to cancel all those therapy sessions starting Jan 2016 if I was going to have any chance of getting control of this. By April 1st tests came back and there was 'no evidence' of having cancer! It does matter what you put in your body for fuel! My weight is under control now, no more blood pressure meds, my hair is back, I sleep and rest so much better.

Got my check from ftc for 4.95 and am cashing it today! I'm very glad to see this thief is in jail now but big pharma should be there with him, but their to big for that I suppose, their fines of 50mil & 200mil at a time is just pocket change to them.

Always someone like you to defend these criminals. Part of why they can get away with it, and do so much damage for so long.

Witch hunt is right. We purchased the book and followed his advice, except that we used homeopathic hcg. Not only does it work EXACTLY like he said it would. It helped me permanently take off & keep off the extra 20 lbs I was carrying around. I received a check for $4.95, but I'm sending it back.

we did not get funds it now why late.please give us right answer soon

The FTC began sending checks on June 22, 2016 to people who bought Kevin Trudeau’s book. If you have questions, you can call the refund administrator at 1-844-828-4437.

I received my refund check toda in the mail....

In the information on your FAQ page, it states you should cash your check by 8/26/16, however I received a check dated 11/28/16? Is this truly legitimate? I saw several people commented that their checks bounced so want to make sure it isn't a scam. I did buy the book a long time ago from the infomercial, so assume it is legitimate but want to make sure. Thank you for responding...

Yes, the check is legitimate. Please cash it within 60 days.

The FTC originally mailed checks in June 2016. Then, in October 2016, we completed an address search to find people who did not cash their check. In November, we mailed checks to 37,000 updated addresses. We updated the Trudeau Refunds page with this information.

Great. How about also getting refunds for victims of Suze Orman media wide "Approved" prepaid debit card fraud?

Sounds like and acts like another typical CORRUPT Washington, D.C. politician. Guess Kevin wanted in on the act too!?

Common Ground
