FTC sends DeVry refund checks

Share This Page

As part of its settlement with DeVry University, starting today, the FTC will mail 173,000 refund checks worth more than $49 million to some students who attended the school between 2008 and 2015. Checks will expire 60 days after they were mailed.

The FTC used DeVry’s records to identify the people who were eligible for refunds. To get a refund, a person must meet all four of these eligibility criteria:

  • enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015;
  • paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
  • did not get debt or loan forgiveness as part of this settlement; and
  • completed at least one class credit.

The refund checks will come from Analytics Consulting, LLC. The FTC never requires you to pay a fee or give financial information to cash a refund check. If anyone tells you they’re from the FTC and asks for money, it’s a scam. If you are eligible for a refund and have questions about the refund process, contact Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645.

The FTC is not providing loan forgiveness. The FTC is providing partial refunds to eligible students.

To get a refund, a person must meet all four of the eligibility criteria listed at the top of this blog.

Ok I understand that because I received my check today. I was just asking if I have to contact DeVry or somebody else to get my Perkins Loan forgiven and my PLUS loan refunded? If it's possible?

In general, when you have questions about a loan, you can contact the lender and loan servicer.

I got 399.14

Where on this site I locate the authenticity of the refund check I received?

Read this information about our refund program, and verifying refund checks.

If i cash the check does that mean I accept the settlement amount and am not able to file my own law suite?

Please read the letter you got with the check. It says that this payment doesn't prevent you from seeking other relief that may be available under federal or state law.

If you cash a check that you get from the FTC’s settlement with DeVry University, you may still pursue other legal action against DeVry. If you succeed in the other action and get the right to recover money, the amount you recover may be reduced by the amount of your FTC refund.

I am 22k in debt, went to Devry nearly two years. My refund arrived today... $117.80. I have paid over $5,000 of my loan back and I received $117.80... I'm really hoping the loan forgiveness actually comes through.

What a slap in the face. If I would have waited a couple months before refinancing my DeVry loan I would have had my loan forgiven. Why were we not notified about potential settlements in advance? I would not have refinanced which in the end cost me about $9000.00.

I got the check today! I have never even heard about this case until today. It's a small amount, but the lesson here is very important to any industries out there, to be frank, and avoid falling into a deceptive advertising strategy.

Yeah, Great for everyone (or some), But the FTC still failed or dropped the ball, because it didn't go far back enough. Perhaps that is only as far back as some legal statue will allow them to go?

I'm not sure of the reasoning, but I GUARANTEE that DeVry was praticing those EXACT same things back in 1989-1992 & Have my i initial Pamphlet Packet to Prove it, PLUS, I only ever signed one single check (the 1st) over to DeVry (as I was told was required by the Financial aid Officr), and that's It! Never signed another check,NOTHING!, and Guess how much Money i ever saw during school??...ZIP! Other people bought books, and paid rent and yada, yada, yada, Me? Zip! I had to pay my own books, work to pay for living expenses, my parents paid for the rent, and yet the little check somehow turned in $10k DEBT!

And I'm just one of many who were and are, STILL LEFT OUTSIDE in the COLD by the FTC....Thanks, for literally, NOTHING!

if someone is not able to cash their check will we get their money?

The four criteria is misleading. It says if you paid with loans, not PERSONAL loans....so unless u paid with a PERSONAL loan from Devry, you get nothing and were not even considered eligible! Federal subsidized loans were not even considered, even though DeVry screwed us all. Or atleast this was what I was told this am by FTC when I called... I mean seriously? So thanks a lot FTC...for NOTHING!

I think you are mixing up qualifying for a partial refund from the FTC and qualifying for loan forgiveness from DeVry.

To get a partial FTC refund, you must meet the four eligibility criterial listed at the top of this blog. One of the eligibility criteria is that you paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits. AND, you must have used a loan that did NOT come directly from DeVry to make the payments. You could have used a federal loan, or a bank or credit union loan, or a loan from another source. You have to meet all four criteria to get a partial refund from the FTC.

The loan and debt forgiveness from DeVry was only for eligible students who had loans that came directly from DeVry. If you qualified for loan or debt forgiveness from DeVry, you should have gotten an email or letter from DeVry by the end of January 2017.

I am trying to reach the phone number given above to find out about this is correct. Since I have not received any refund check?. please help me

Had fun waiting on hold for 20+ minutes only to find out they sent the check to the old address which was updated while I was attending DeVry.

They'll give you a claim number and you have to send a written request (via fax or mail) for a new check. They said it will take 4-8 weeks to get it.

All for a measly <1% of what I paid in tuition.

I just had to do the same thing. Seems pretty silly that they couldn't try to verify addresses before mailing out millions in checks. I mean come on this was years ago. Chances are many people have moved.

I received a check for $103. I was on track of graduating this year however, I'm thinking about changing schools. I'm in the military, so I used my TA, GI Bill and personal money. I enrolled with DeVry because of the job placement after graduating. Think it's time to depart with DeVry.

I like how on this refund check it states you can further actions on devry... For example to file a borrowers defense against repayment on devry... So the ftc is recommending us all to file a borrowers defense claim? Is this true?

I just faxed over my change of address. Since I haven't attended Devry in 3 years I have moved. How long does it typically take to update the address and reissue the check?

HI Bridget I paid 20,000 at Devry for a Bachelor's degree where can I get some money back or how can I apply for it.

The FTC will use DeVry’s records to identify students eligible for refunds. If you were a DeVry student between January 1, 2008 and September 30, 2015, you don’t need to do anything to apply for a refund. The FTC is mailing checks to people who:

  • enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015;
  • paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
  • did not get debt or loan forgiveness as part of this settlement; and
  • completed at least one class credit.

This Settlement refund only helps with a grocery bill or 2... If you want to further see loan forgiveness (what the FTC shouldve done...) or have a chance at forgiveness please file on a borrowers defense claim. On the Refund check it states you can further actions against devry filing a borrowers defense on devry. People that were lied to with false advertisements shouldnt have to pay for devrys scam. There is hope. The more claims the better. Please take 2hrs and fill out a borrowers defense against repayment.

is the refund real or is it a scam?

Everyone Please submit a borrowers defense claim ! The more people that does the more likely we can all get out of debt with DeVry.

I paid $7,000 in tuition and only recieved $116 as a refund... Is there a way where i can get more???

I went to DeVry University for eight months, got in debt of student loans for $16,000, who do I need to speak to helping me with the $16,000?

You could be eligible for a partial refund from the FTC if you meet all four of these eligibility criteria:

  • enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015;
  • paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
  • did not get debt or loan forgiveness as part of this settlement; and
  • completed at least one class credit.

The FTC will use DeVry’s records to identify students eligible for refunds. If you were a DeVry student between January 1, 2008 and September 30, 2015, you don’t need to do anything to apply for a refund. If you think you might be eligible, and your address has changed since you attended DeVry, you can call the FTC refund administrator at 844-578-2645 to update your address.

Just curious if anyone knows I did receive a small refund. I payed out of pocket for the balance I owed each semester after federal loans. I already applied to get the loans forgiven but is there a way to fight to get back money I didn't borrow? Seems kinda unfair for them to forgive the people with unpaid balances but not give back to the people that payed it. Thanks!

The amount of your partial refund is based on the amount of tuition you paid to DeVry during the relevant time period, minus any refunds, scholarships or grants (including Pell Grants) that you got during that time. This amount of tuition you paid might not be the same as the amount you borrowed in student loans. For example, you might have also borrowed money to pay for books, fees or living expenses.

I met all the requirements and have not received anything. How do I apply for a refund?

You can't apply. The FTC will use DeVry’s records to identify students eligible for refunds. If you were a DeVry student between January 1, 2008 and September 30, 2015, you don’t need to do anything to apply for a refund. If you think you might be eligible, and your address has changed since you attended DeVry, you can call the FTC refund administrator at 844-578-2645 to update your address

So what if I qualify but I have since moved from my address where I lived when I attended school?

If you are eligible for a refund and have questions about the refund process, contact Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645.

Hello does anyone have the wed address so I can fill out the form for the borrower defense? I would appreciate it I accidentally threw my form out. Thank you

I'm in the same boat with student debt but I know what I signed up for. People need to make sure they understand what they're doing when they sign up for loans. No one else should be responsible for me being in debt for getting a degree.

If you haven't received your checks yet I would call Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645 and verify you were to receive a check and where it was sent. I called today as I saw many people had received their checks. My check was sent to a previous address, and not even the most recent address I lived at while attending DeVry, that I haven't lived at for 5 years. I was instructed to fax my new address so they can stop the check and issue a new one. The standard turn around is 4-6 weeks but the representative on the phone thought I might get it quicker than that. You can also ask them what you will receive and they will let you know. Hope this helps someone.

Did you have any issues faxing? I'm having trouble getting the fax to go through.

Thank you!

I had a different address when I attended Devry. How do I see if I have a check?

I tried cashing my check at Walmart and it was declined.

Is anyone having problems cashing the check?

I am. I have chase and they are giving me the hardest time. I called hunginton n problem but they are saying they can't verify because it's an automated phone call

I also talked to federal trade commission refund and they said chase could call them when I called back chase they didn't want to hear it

I met all the requirements (studied at Devry in Calgary, Canada campus) and I haven't got anything yet. How long does it take to get the check arrive? How do I check if i'm on the list?

The FTC action against DeVry related to ads that ran in the U.S. Students who attended the Calgary campus are not eligible for partial refunds.

Thanks for the information!
I called FTC and they didnt have my name. I studied at Calgary, AB Canada location.

I feel left out :(

I got $724, and am 50k in debt, for reference
