FTC sends DeVry refund checks

As part of its settlement with DeVry University, starting today, the FTC will mail 173,000 refund checks worth more than $49 million to some students who attended the school between 2008 and 2015. Checks will expire 60 days after they were mailed.

The FTC used DeVry’s records to identify the people who were eligible for refunds. To get a refund, a person must meet all four of these eligibility criteria:

  • enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015;
  • paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
  • did not get debt or loan forgiveness as part of this settlement; and
  • completed at least one class credit.

The refund checks will come from Analytics Consulting, LLC. The FTC never requires you to pay a fee or give financial information to cash a refund check. If anyone tells you they’re from the FTC and asks for money, it’s a scam. If you are eligible for a refund and have questions about the refund process, contact Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645.

For reference it is one percent. Original loans were over 90k and I got like 907 back.

Hello, Has anyone had guidance for the loan forgiveness or loan discharge.?

file for borrowers defense now!!! do not wait!!!!

Please let me know how to apply for the borrowers defense.

Bridgette, I called to confirm I was receiving a check and my address was correct. If I have still (7/17) not received that check should I call to have them resend one?

You can call the refund administrator at any time to see if you are on the list and verify your address. Call 844-578-2645.

Yes this settlement was a joke on the refunds. Wish I knew why they settled so low, but that is what the FTC did. Sadly Forprofit DEVRY are messing with students who have less than average jobs scamming them with worthless degrees and will continue. They get lured in with "oh you will get an amazing job after graduation". "You will have your dream job and make so much more than any other college degree". "We have our 90% job placement" ect...
The school Clearly has not backing on the job placement scamming kids left and right... "Devry Advertised half of the United States tax money on it." AKA (1/4 tax money they get is spent on advertising 200mil+/year)(btw Government is ok with that.) (Need a Major change on how colleges can spend Tax money.)
So its not hard for them to gather up people...
I was one of the students... that got scammed and tried for a couple year to land an entry job... but no no no.
So now here i am filing my borrowers defense to repayment on Devry. Waiting Waiting. I am working for poor Missouri (worst paid state workers) to hopefully get my Public Service Loan Forgiveness.(PSLF). Im Praying that my Borrowers Defense goes through. Over 60k in Debt with a worthless Degree. It makes me sick that im young and wasted my time and money for nothing. I am just a number. Thanks FTC

My bank is giving me a hard time cashing. Is anyone else having this issue

You could ask your bank to call the bank that issued the check. That is Huntington bank, and the Huntington Customer Service number is 1-800-480-2265.

Any agent that answers will be able to verify that the account is valid and that there are sufficient funds available in the account to cash the check.

Hello I told them to call and they were getting passed around between phone and automated services

I have not received my settlement check. I called the refund administrator who confirmed my address was correct and the check was mailed weeks ago but I still haven't received it. What should I do?

You can contact the refund administrator at any time at 844-578-2645.

60k, I got $600, wrong address. I filed for a borrowers defense in Jan. I got one email in June stating they're still looking into it.

@ John K On your borrowers defense. Can you sorta detail what you put in? Also what did they say in the email?

I filed over a month ago, still no email/confirmation or anything. I called them and they said it takes up to 60 days to even get a confirmation.

@phxgrad2012
The doe should get on this especially since the ftc gave reference to filing a borrowers defense... Makes no since that won't do anything after devry lured students in with deceptive advertising...

I have moved since going to Devry who do I contact to make sure I'm on the list and confirm the correct address

I still haven't received my check, despite being told twice that I'd receive one. I updated my address. It's now the 20th. Please don't give me a canned response telling me to call the number. I've done that. Now all it does is say "Please leave a message after the tone." Yes, it's the right number because as soon as I dial, the automated "You've reached the FTC hotline for the DeVry settlement..." message is played.

Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks all who posted about hitting the zero (0) after you call the number. It worked!! The number is 844-578-2645. They will tell you how much you will receive and confirm your address.

I attended DeVry couldn't find a good job they said I needed to go to Keller to get more experience. Did that. $285,000 later I still could not find a job. I had to go take industry specific training classes out of my own pocket and DeVry/Keller gave me nothing but debt.

@Holly 83 Devry used deceptive practices to lure you in... This college needs to go. Something you can do is filed a borrowers defense.

Where is my refund?

I haven't received any correspondence about this. No check either. I have changed my name and moved. I attended from 10/2008-6/2011. I was told I would find a job within 6 months of graduation paying $75K+. 6 years later, still no job. I find contract jobs that pay $15/hr. I called the number, pressed "0", got a message to leave a message. Wonder if they'll call me back.

How did they determine how much you received? I only received 66.41. I paid way more than that. How do you find out if should get more?

The amount of your partial refund is based on the amount of tuition you paid to DeVry during the relevant time period and up until November 2016, minus any refunds, scholarships or grants (including Pell Grants) that you got during that time. This amount of tuition you paid might not be the same as the amount you borrowed in student loans. For example, you might have also borrowed money to pay for books, fees or living expenses.

The number provide can not answer any questions. How do we get answers? They can't tell how much was reported by Devry, they can't tell me the percentage for the refund, or who to contact for the answers.

Why does refunds count? Because this was money left over and we are having to pay that back now?

I'll say it over and over again. Please if you think devry lied in its ads file a borrowers defense against repayment. BTW they did... So file a borrowers defense against repayment. This will give you a chance to receive forgiveness. Take 2hrs doing it.

I received my check (just over $500) and I see a link was in there to apply for loan forgiveness. I went and filled out the online form. How long does that take to process? Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back? Have others affected by DeVry's fraudlent actions been able to get their Federal Loans forgiven?

What about parent plus loans?

The FTC refund is a partial refund to students who meet the eligibility criteria listed at the top of the blog. If a student meets those criteria, the refund goes to the student.

One thing a student must do to be eligible for a partial refund from the FTC is have paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits. If the student paid for school with Parent Plus loans, the payments count toward paying at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits.

I went to deposit the check at my bank and the teller said that she was unable to and received a message on the screen. She further said I have to contact them. 3 questions: has anyone has this issue? What steps did they take to deposit or cash it? And who do I have to contact? Thank you.

You or your bank can contact Huntington bank, the bank that issued the check at 1-800-480-2265. That is Huntington’s customer service number. The agent that answers will be able to verify the validity of the account and the fact that there are sufficient funds available in the account to cash the check.

Are there any benefits for those that attended Devry from 2002-2005

Just wondering but hs anyone just now received their check? Around 07/25? I still haven't received mine.

I meet all of the criteria and didn't receive a check. Called to see if I was in the system, but they can only check by first and last name. Someone probably misspelled it.

I received a check for over 400.00

This is a two fold refund. I was eligible and did receive a partial refund from the FTC. Although minimal, I still appreciate the efforts. As for the direct loan forgiveness, I have direct loans through Devry and have not heard anything about these. I saw some posts saying I would have received some notice in late January but have not. What are my next steps? Has anyone been relieved of their direct loans with Devry?

I attended DeVry for the first time July 2012 and I didnt get any refund. Are you guys still emailing checks or not? I attended the DeVry North Brunswick,NJ

How can I find out if I am on the listing to receive a refund?

I'm really sorry to hear that you all are having problems finding jobs after graduating. I graduated in 2012 and was employed three months after graduating as a medical coder. I started off Manning 14.00 an hour working at a hospital, and over the last five years have moved up to making 31.00 an hour working from home. I hope some of you can find the success in your field that I did in mine.

How can I find out if a check was mailed off to me? I meet all the requirements but did not receive any information about this as of yet.

If you are eligible for a refund and have questions about the refund process, contact Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645.

Is there anywhere to check if I did receive any type of refund from this?

I RECIEVED MY CHECK AND I'M JUST WONDERING IS THERE ANOTHER THAT I WILL RECIEVE.

This refund recommends everyone who feels that they were deceived to file a borrowers defense against devry.

I am going on 3-4 months and still have not heard anything. I have also called them. I am not holding my breath the guy on the phone said they have apps they are working that are over 2 years old.

I went to Devry and Keller from Jul 07 till Feb 14 and I never received a check and it's half way through August. What's the deal.

"enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015" you, like others, did not meet this particular requirement and it's dumb that y'all are not included in this. Best thing for you to do is file a borrower's defense against DeVry.
