FTC sends DeVry refund checks

Share This Page

As part of its settlement with DeVry University, starting today, the FTC will mail 173,000 refund checks worth more than $49 million to some students who attended the school between 2008 and 2015. Checks will expire 60 days after they were mailed.

The FTC used DeVry’s records to identify the people who were eligible for refunds. To get a refund, a person must meet all four of these eligibility criteria:

  • enrolled for the first time in a bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at DeVry University between January 1, 2008 and October 1, 2015;
  • paid at least $5,000 with cash, loans or military benefits;
  • did not get debt or loan forgiveness as part of this settlement; and
  • completed at least one class credit.

The refund checks will come from Analytics Consulting, LLC. The FTC never requires you to pay a fee or give financial information to cash a refund check. If anyone tells you they’re from the FTC and asks for money, it’s a scam. If you are eligible for a refund and have questions about the refund process, contact Analytics Consulting, LLC at 844-578-2645.

Hello, I called the hotline number posted on your website because I never received any correspondence in regards to this settlement. I still have access to my student account at Devry, therefore I was able to quickly confirm that I met all requirements for the settlement. However, when I called the hotline - I was told that they did not show that I had paid anything. I was directed to call Devry, I did. I was told that they see that I definitely paid more than $5000 within the timeframe that was set forth in the settlement terms. However, they did not seem to know exactly what to do. I am trying to be very proactive because I know that there is a deadline for the settlement. How do I submit my payment statements and/or forms to prove that I qualify?

I have not received my check as of 8/22/17. I attended Devry from Oct. 2010 to Dec. 2011 and received my bachelors. I have over $40K in student loan debt from Devry (which is nuts). From the comments above the checks are not for much but it would still be nice to get one. I called the FTC hotline and it says to cash your check before Sep. 4, but that is less than two weeks away and I am still waiting on the check to come. What gives?

Nobody is answering it leave the automated voice and goes right to voicemail

Looks like we are all done for... an ex devry dean is in charge of the claims now... like wow

I've been calling the number provided to inquire about a refund for myself and it's not working. I meet all the requirement as well, but again I can't get in contact with anyone.

If you can't reach anyone, you can make a copy of the comment you submitted here, and send it to BlogInfo@ftc.gov.

I requested a reissue just over a month ago as I had not received the original check. They said there would be 4 - 8 weeks... Just wondering if there's a specific number I need to call to get a status update on the reissued check? Also, I've seen that there's a deadline of Sept 4th to cash it. I assume this isn't the case for reissued checks...

If you feel like you got Defrauded by devry file a borrowers defense. Only thing that you can do about this.

I did not recieved any refund check only a letter from Devry stating they were making my balance I owed them from 4k to zero and collections were going to stop. I applied for the Borrower defense back in Jan 2017 all they told me from DOE handing my case they gave me til March 2018 to determined what will happen with the federal loans. I might have to hire an attorney to go to bk court and hopefully the judge can grant me a BK on those loans even thought the law is not on my side regarding that issue.

Maybe this will help someone, I just got off the phone with someone there (844-578-2645). I called and created a claim on 7/26 because I never received a check the first time. Today they said my check was re-issued on 8/31.

I submitted a change of address to the FTC but did not receive my refund check. How do I check the status of it?

I received my check a week ago. To be able to cash this check I had to open a dollar bank account ( I live in Russia). Only today my bank opened to me this account, but check is expired. How can I request a new check? Thanks

I never received a check as I don't live at the residence DeVry had on file for me. Is there a way to see if a check was issued to me??

Hi,

I no longer live in the US and so I received the refund check rather late via my mailing address. I tried calling the 844-578-2645 number but I wasn’t able to reach anyone during office hours. I also wasn’t able to reach anyone by pressing 0. I don’t want to be penalized just because Devry didn’t have my direct address. Do I need to contact the Huntington bank directly? Is there something I can do to resolve this?

I haven't gotten the check yet. I moved a lot after finished DeVry. That's why? Where can I contact?

The Checks expired... the ftc sucks...and devry is still scamming....
That is how i see it as. My opinion... devry paying 100mil was easy as pie. The big for profit college(devry) walks away paying a penny... The Government loads devry up with tax payer money to give to students.... to fail...

I received a check for $322 in July and never cashed it. I just realized the letter says to cash before Sept. 5. Am I no longer able to cash the check?

Hi
When will you send the second wave of checks

When are you sending the second checks?

i got a refund and was told to file for debt forgiveness as well.
i did this. i asked for all payments to halt until such time that it is deemed they will forgive my payments and debt.
two things: all students within that time frame should get auto debt forgiveness up to 75k. DeVry should pay all debt due to this judgement. since i was advised to file for forgiveness, one should take this as face value that it will be forgiven.
should the powers that be deem this as a no, then people should be able to meet the same payment refunded and then have all debt in a paid in full status. for those of us that have paid against our loans in good faith, they should refund all monies less the refunded amount, and consider the debt paid in full.

Is there any update on if there will be a 2nd wave of checks?
