New deadline for Western Union settlement requests

Did you lose money to a scammer who had you pay using Western Union between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017? If so, you can ask for money back from the FTC’s settlement with Western Union. And the deadline to file your claim was just extended to May 31, 2018.

Here’s the deal. Western Union agreed to return $586 million to people to settle the FTC’s charges that Western Union hadn’t adequately protected people from fraud, and didn’t properly discipline problem agents. To get money back, here’s what you need to do by May 31, 2018:

  • Start at FTC.gov/WU to file your claim online. If you got a letter in the mail about a complaint you filed earlier, you’ll have a Claim ID and a PIN. Click the blue “I got a pre-filled claim form” button and use those to file your claim. If you didn’t get a letter in the mail, click the orange button that says “I lost money, but did not get a claim form.”
  • Give as much information as you can about your loss. Upload any paperwork you have. The Department of Justice, which is handling the claims through their contractor, Gilardi & Co, will use that information to try to validate your Western Union money transfer.
  • Yes, you have to give your Social Security number or ITIN to file a claim. Read why here.
  • Don’t pay anybody to help you file your claim, or get money back. Anybody who asks you to pay for your claim or refund is scamming you. Tell the FTC.
  • Then, be patient. It might take a year for the Department of Justice to validate all the claims and start returning money.

If you have questions, you might find answers here, and also check out the FAQs at FTC.gov/WU. Why not do it now? But you have until May 31, 2018. After that, you won’t be able to file your claim to get money back under this settlement with Western Union.

The last day to apply for a refund was May 31, 2018. We are not accepting any new claims.

I a victim of daiting online how I can do my claims for western union and for ria Wal-Mart to walmart

The deadline to apply for a refund for money you sent to a scammer using Western Union was May 31, 2018. We are not accepting any new claims. The FTC does not have a refund program about ria Walmart to Walmart.

I know a group of people who sent hundreds of WUs and they weren't aware of filing claims to get a money back. Will this be extended again?

The deadline to apply for a refund was May 31, 2018. We are not accepting any new claims.

Will this be in 2019, when we will receive any thing back. I got the letter in 2017... I Sent it back.. How long do you think the process will be? The beginning of 2019, middle or end of 2019. You won't get the fee of sending the money, but! Just money sent. That what the paper said, I don't see why not? But! At the same time. At least you getting your money back.. I was excited even 10 years later. It was even acknowledged. I moved like 7 or 8 times.
Don't tell me folk can't find. The part that God me is, that they didn't mind telling you, if you owe the government will take it, if there is money owed. I never owed the government, but! I swear they gone find a way to get that change, you got fraud from only for them to get your funds. Why did I laugh out loud... I want my whole 780.00 back...

This is really nice. Only just heard about this. Foreigners do not count as far as being defrauded by a multi-billion $$ bank who loves your money, more than you.

The deadline to file a claim was May 31, 2018. People were not required to be a US citizen, or be in the US, to file a claim before the deadline, if they used Western Union to send money to a scammer between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017. The questions and answers on the redress administrators website explain this.

I received a letter telling me to make my claim which I sent it in the mail as well as the online claim back in Nov/Dec 2017 and was told Deadline was in Feb 2018. Haven't heard anything on my $1500 scam that happened in Sept 2014. Now Im just seeing this new deadline that has passed. I filed a claim already and still haven't heard anything??

Have the lawsuit been file yet?

Hello I sent all documents required for 8 payments totaling €23.509,20. these payments were made between July 2015 and August 2015.
To date I have received no confirmation that these claims were received or are receiving your attention. Is this normal and please confirm at least receipt of these claims

To ask about your claim, contact Gilardi & Co, the company that is managing the refund process for the US Department of Justice, at 844-319-2124 or info@WesternUnionRemission.com.

Filed a claim about 1 year ago still haven't heard anything about it yet

What if I have moved or my address has changed since I submitted the claim? Is there somewhere I can change the address for me to make sure I get the check or money back?

When do you think the payout will be?

I got a letter and I send it but I didn’t get no answer back and I had send it in February 2018

Is there any new info on this lawsuit. I sent my info in 2017. Last I seen was expect your refund in early 2019

I sent my info in the first deadline date. I asked how long the only reply I got was it could take a year. I guess it’s a year from the May deadline and not the November. I was told to refer to this website for any update. All I see is the same repeated info. It would be nice if they posted an update for us. The ones that lost money!

Get updates at FTC.gov/WU and Gilardi & Co.

Whats the update on the case?

I am wondering when we will see the refund back to us? I lost a lot of money!!

Anyone get a check yet? Heard anything new? Any updates? It's been forever since we did our claim.

How much longer?? It’s been 18 months since I filed my claim. And please don’t use standard reply that makes you sound like a robot. Please give me the most accurate answer. Everything you see is repeated over and over again.

I actually just called the 888 number to ask the same question. I also filed my claim back in Nov/Dec 2017. They said that it will take a year or more to receive payment from the last deadline set, which if my memory serves is June 2019. So it will be sometime in 2020/2021 that we receive payment for our claims. I hope they don’t move the deadline anymore but I’m also glad that other who were scammed have the opportunity to get their money back as well.

The deadline for filing a claim was May 31, 2018.

Gilardi & Co. recently sent letters to some people who filed claims, because their claims were missing information. Gilardi & Co. sent 38,000 letters on March 29, 2019; people must respond to those letters by June 30, 2019. For more information go to www.FTC.gov/WU and www.WesternUnionRemission.com.

Hi there I was sent a claim form through the mail which I filed online at the end of 2017 beginning of 2018. They listed my loss amount and I attached all of the information and emails I had about the fraud case when I filed. I noticed that they have moved the deadline again to June 2019. Is there a way to find out if our claim was accepted or denied? I haven’t received any further information about my claim since I filed it. It’s frustrating to feel like your being strung along and that you will never actually receive remission for the fraud that occurred against us.
Thanks

When will there be an update on this?

I applied with my letter and ID and I have never received my refund. When will I get it
