We’ve seen a new twist on the Social Security Administration (SSA) scam recently. Check out this SSA imposter robocall, which says your benefits will end. (That’s not true, by the way.)
If you get a call like this, do not press 1. Instead, just hang up and remember:

  • Your Social Security number is not about to be suspended.
  • The real Social Security Administration will never call to threaten your benefits.
  • The real SSA will never tell you to wire money, send cash, or put money on a gift card.

The Social Security Administration scam is the number one scam reported to the FTC right now. People filed nearly 73,000 reports about Social Security imposters in the first six months of 2019, with reported losses of $17 million. (You can explore the data about imposter scams and losses at ftc.gov/exploredata.)

So if you’re getting these calls, you’re not alone. Tell your friends and neighbors about this scam. Tell them to hang up the phone. And then to report it to the Federal Trade Commission.

I've received one call an hour. This is so annoying! I wish the FCC would actually enforce the banning or restriction of these types of scam robo calls. Obviously, people are upset and some have lost money. This is beyond ridiculous. Something actually needs to be done besides having a nice message saying to ignore the calls. Hard to do when it is One. Call. An. Hour.

September 23, 2020
I received about 6 calls from California, Maryland, North Carolina, and a couple of other states with the message that my Social Security was going to be suspended. I know it's a scam, but it's not fair we can't answer our phone numbes because these jerks call all day long and then have a nerve to leave a message on the phone. These calls have got to be stopped. Why can't these calls be stopped.

phone numbers 512 424 200 and 800 313 2333. I received this call today after multiple voice messages stating that my SS# is suspended by SS Administration due to criminal acitivity. I asked him about their website and he asked me to search "ssa hg alert" on google and click on the first link. OMG, it's an identical website with "www.ssa.gov" I followed up his lead and started verifying my first and last name I started to spell-out my name and he was having a hard time getting it right. I asked him, if you have all my information and verifying, then why are you struggling as if you're getting my information the first time? then he switched the topic and keep asking me what my age is.... then I got suspicious and hung-up on him. Then I went to SSA.gov and called them directly - interestingly, the representative from SS office inform me they are not the one who's calling, SS office never calls individuals to let them know their ss# is suspended. they told me there are several scams is going on and to report the incident online (www.oig.ssa.gov).

I just got a call today and I was really scared.. he asked me to verify my info and told me that there was a warrant for my arrest and even went as far as saying he transferred me to a supervisor. I was initially scared and they kept me on the phone for over an hour, then I google the second number they called from and I’m finding all the comments on this site: thankfully I read these comments! This is so scary! We need to be protected from this fraud.
