Fake calls from Apple and Amazon support: What you need to know

Scammers are calling people and using the names of two companies everyone knows, Apple and Amazon, to rip people off. Here’s what you need to know about these calls.

In one version of the scam, you get a call and a recorded message that says it’s Amazon. The message says there’s something wrong with your account. It could be a suspicious purchase, a lost package, or an order they can’t fulfill.

In another twist on the scam, you get a recorded message that says there’s been suspicious activity in your Apple iCloud account. In fact, they say your account may have been breached.

In both scenarios, the scammers say you can conveniently press 1 to speak with someone (how nice of them!). Or they give you a phone number to call. Don’t do either. It’s a scam. They’re trying to steal your personal information, like your account password or your credit card number.

If you get an unexpected call or message about a problem with any of your accounts, hang up.

  • Do not press 1 to speak with customer support
  • Do not call a phone number they gave you
  • Do not give out your personal information

If you think there may actually be a problem with one of your accounts, contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real.

I have gotten 32 of these calls in the past 24 hours!

They have called me at least 10 times within two hours and have left messages. All similar phone numbers. So frustrating!!! They all start with 615-497-xxxx.

They've called 4 times so far today saying Amazon. Two of the numbers used said Navy Federal Credit Union on the caller ID. So annoying and ridiculous.

I just got a phone call from a scammer. I did press one but it was a man voice that called. I dont know how to fix it. This website is going to help me I hope.

I just got a call from 540-559-7213 saying I had a large purchase through Amazon Family for a I phone. I pressed one to speak to someone. She told me if I didn’t make this purchase hackers hit my IP address and made the purchase through my account. She said she was going to transfer me to security but first I need to go to this website. Join.zoho.com. By this time I knew something was fishy so I grabbed my other phone and googled this website. This website allows them access to your computer. Be very aware of these calls.

I received 14 calls in a 3 hour period last night. This morning 12 more so far . How can I stop this

They are calling me every 10 minutes for the last 2 days. They are spoofing dozens of different numbers. I though this was illegal. What is being done to stop this. It is harassment at the very least.

Just received a call from "Amazon" about a purchase of $200+ on my account. If I made this purchase, just hang up and it will be sent to me. If I did not make this purchase , I can press 1 to talk to someone or call back at 470-668-4063 to dispute this. Do NOT do either one, just hang up.

I just got a call from +1(800)995-6798 the message said the following. “Selectivity on you Amazon account until in unless this concern ___ fixed please press one to talk to Amazon customer support thank you...” ahh how about NO! The message don’t even make sense. I blocked this scammer!

Got a phone call from a wireless phone (303- 704-1458) on my home landline saying someone charged a $800.00 iPhone to my amazon account they wanted a cell phone number or a computer to send papers. I told them I didn't have either.

I get these calls every day, I block every number, god knows how many numbers they have.
But do people actually still fall for this scam? Maybe there should be more awareness.

This has happened to my mates dad and now they have hacked his computer again we don't know how but tried his bank account 4 times bank just keep cancelling his card and send another but only on his Santander account???

I just received the Amazon purchase phone call of an iphone for $799.99 - they wanted to know the device I use to access Amazon - the recording is exactly like what is on here and when I pressed 1 it said that my call couldn't be handle at this time and hung up. Me being me I called back the number and it went right to someone and he tried this whole narrative so they could send me a link to cancel the pending charge. He said that it was being made from Dayton, Ohio using my credentials but could not tell me what card or anything the charge was made too. I finally hung up on him as I knew it was not legit. The number I was called from was 803-560-8380.

I got a call from Amazon - I hit 1 and was told Russians and Chinese hackers were in my account... and they wanted me to join a video conference with Amazon techs. They called from 800 898-7782 Go get these bums.

Me too. Wanted me to go to my browser and click on the Windows key + R. I told them I knew they were a scam from the get go, just curious what they would want me to do.

I received a slightly different message about a $9.00 charge on my Amazon account from Dayton. Before reading this, I called the number back; it just rang and rang with no answer. Now I’m really worried they’ve linked my account and accessed my information. Shouldn’t Amazon have some accountability to protect our private information. How do I know which Amazon site is the real one?

[Mechanical voice:] "If you recognize this charge, to cancel this gift card order, please call back Amazon support on the same number which is displayed on your phone's caller ID ..."

I have 2 Amazon orders pending but not a gift card, so I checked here first. Glad I did.

I have been bombarded with calls from different numbers that leave a message to call back 315-232-8257 they all leave this same call back number. Its either from fake apple advisor or amazon.

Received a call from "Amazon" saying I had a sizeable purchase and gave me and a fake order #.

The new hook is if this correct simply Hang Up!

I get calls that there has been suspicious activity on my Amazon account.
I answer because they pop up as calls from my area code and local exchange.
But when I go to report the call, there's no record of it in caller ID.

Hi...you should be able to see the number if you click on your history. Hope that helps.

If you press #1 don't panic...They have to get access to your computer to actually carry out the Scam/Theft.

how do they do that?

I got two separate electronic phone messages regarding a suspicious charge on my Visa card to Amazon.com. In both cases they left a (different) phone number to call for Amazon support if I didn’t make the transaction. So far, no such transactions have shown up on my cc and I did not call either number back.

I got the Amazon call. I answered but then hung up. I called back the number. They answered Amazon, how may I help you. I was suspicious so I hung up, not saying anything......waited a few minutes then called again, still suspicious, no one answered, but they did.....I could hear background talking. So I hung up again. Other then verifying that the number they call was a "good" number....do I need to be worried about my information?

In addition to our iPhones, we still have a landline, and for the past few weeks we have been bombarded with repeated calls. Sometimes three within thirty minutes. Just venting.

Just got am automated call from Amazon saying I have ordered over 800 dollars for iPhone and if I didn't press 1. I pressed 1 and nothing presses 0 and a lady answered saying Amazon. I said I did not order anything and she hung up on me

I just got one of these scam Amazon calls even though I'm using Nomorobo.

I received a call using Amazon and saying I made a purchase for over 300 pounds. I have never done so and do not even have an account with them I hung up and followed no other instructions. This was a fraud.

They are now using phone numbers that come up as businesses I use!!!! This is harassment but how do you stop it????

Apple scam, frequency of calls increasing to be only minutes apart this morning. Message says to call 315-232-8257 which of course I will not call.

I have the same exact issue. All day today. Different local numbers each time. Like every 10-15mins. All Amazon or Apple recordings. And it’s still happening. Right now

I just got one, luckily I work for a local police dept and I just said I would have one of my detectives look into it and they immediately hung up.

Ihave been getting Amazon emails and phone calls saying i have purchasing items, won prizes on and on 10 calls i need this harassment to stop now.

I’ve had block calls but they keep coming from different numbers. So far,
Amazon
1 855 673 3919
1 855 673 2312
1 855 658 7294
1 855 658 0815
1 855 658 8151
1 855 658 9460
1 855 673 7251

Apple:
1 855 673 2222

Those numbers are completely different from my 13 calls.

I just got a call about a $799 purchase to Amazon. The difference this time is that they want you to call back if you didn't make the purchase. They wanted me to call 208-722-1048. I didn't call

I received three (3) of these calls today, reportedly from Apple Support, claiming my Apple account has been breached. I don't have an Apple account. Used local area code numbers and names: Hass J, 215-242-7568; Allen Caressa, 215-242-4284; and Dental Arts of ..., 215-242-6632 .

I received two calls today from a mail voice claiming to be Amazon.

Every 5 minutes. She calls me and my voicemail at the same time. FOR AN HOUR. Got me one time, used the name and address of a local business. Send help :/

I have gotten more than 15 calls today from "Apple Support". No number is exactly the same but all have my local area code and the prefix of my mobile. How do I stop this harassment?

I'm getting one from Amazon saying a big amount was ordered on my account and if I didn't make or authorize it to press 1 to speak to a rep. Here's the thing, I can't block the number because it's from UNAVAILABLE!

EXACTLY! I've had scammers call using names and numbers of people I know on my caller ID! Had a scam call using my banker's home phone! He was very angry. Sent him a screenshot of my caller ID to prove it happened. Phone company has NO record of that number calling me out my phone receiving a call at that time. They use working numbers too of people's working numbers. People have called others using MY PHONE AS A SCAMMER! How do we block them from using ours and other people's personal working phone numbers?

They tried the Amazon phone ordered scam, I hung up immediately.

I just got a call from “Amazon” saying that I had purchased vouchers and they were checking in because it seemed suspicious. I’ve also had the calls that said I purchased an iPhone and they wanted to verify the purchase. This time I pressed one even though I figured it was a scam.
He wanted to know if I made the purchase, which I responded with no. I asked what info he would need from me and he said they were not allowed to ask for personal info and that I had to stop the charge on my end.
He asked if I was near a computer and we don’t own one. He said I could do it off my phone and asked if I had an android or apple. I then asked if I could just check my Amazon account and see if it showed up to which he responded that they had already blocked my account. I then hung up... there is nothing suspicious on my Amazon account.

These really are getting annoying I've had 3 from amazon in the last 4 day's on a work phone number that has no link to Amazon in any capacity is the phone is provided by work for work purposes.

I pressed 1 and it was clearly someone overseas pretending to be Amazon, they wanted me to install software on my computer. I hope people don’t actually fall for this.

What happens if you press 1 ? I did as thought I go have had a go at the fraudster on the line
