MoneyGram fraud refunds get closer

If you used MoneyGram to send money to a scammer between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017, you may get a prefilled claim form in the mail soon. The claim forms, from claims administrator Gilardi & Co. LLC, are the first step in distributing money from the $125 million settlement with the FTC in 2018. In that case, the FTC and US Department of Justice (DOJ) charged that MoneyGram failed to meet agreements to crack down on consumer fraud involving money transfers.

You must return the claim form within 90 days

from the date on the form to be eligible for a refund.

These prefilled claim forms show eligible dollar loss amounts that are based on fraud reports people filed with MoneyGram and law enforcement. If you get a form and agree with the dollar loss amount shown:

  • sign and date the form
  • fill out the information the form asks for
  • mail it back in the return envelope that came with the letter

If you get a form but don’t agree with the dollar loss amount shown:

  • sign and date the form
  • fill out the information the form asks for
  • mail it back with copies of documents that back up the amount you claim. You can send copies of MoneyGram receipts, “send” forms, or transaction history reports with a listed eight-digit money transfer control number (MTCN). You can request a transaction history report on the MoneyGram website.

The claim form requires you to give your Social Security number (SSN). That’s because the federal Treasury Offset Program must find out whether you owe money to the US government before you can get a payment. It needs your SSN to do that.

You don’t have to pay to file your claim. You don’t need a lawyer to file a claim. Don’t pay anyone who contacts you and says they’ll help you file, or help you get your money back.

On June 1, 2021, people who didn’t get a prefilled form can start filing claims online at When you file a claim online, you have to give a MoneyGram MTCN. Or, you will be able to print the claim form and mail it in with copies of MoneyGram receipts, “send” forms, and transaction history reports. If you plan to file in June, you can start to collect — and make copies of — your receipts and other paperwork now. Once that process opens, the deadline to file a claim is August 31, 2021.

I followed the instructions to file on line, do I still have to mail back the claim form? When will the refunds be issued?

I have been scammed during these dates along with a friend of mine. We lived at the same address at the time. She received here card but I have not. I am not sure if it’s because I have moved or what happened. Who should I contact about this?

My claim form states "must pay the remaining $55 million by May 8, 2021". Calls to Gilardi & Co LLC just brings you to a recorded line. What is the status of this claim, due to be paid by May 8

I understand this scam money was to be paid by May8, 2021, but I have not recieved my money that I was scammed out of. When can I expect my money.???

I did filled out my form online through Moneygramremmission... I submitted it. Do I have to fill out another form and mail it in. Please someone let me know. Thanks

I've been trying to submit through the MoneyGram Remission website but keep getting an error. Is anyone else having this problem? Emails and phone calls have done unanswered.

This is a blessing, however a credit union and a bank did large transfers . Seems like I used walmart to walmart through Ria for other large transfers. Do you think that Walmart or Ria will be doing this also? I lost over $64,000

I have made two in-person attempts and have spent hours on the phone with Moneygram trying to pay their fee to obtain a transaction history. Odd that my 94 year old father was always able to send his money to scammers via Moneygram but the estate can’t pay them for info to support a claim.

Filled out the form online and received a confirmation email with a claim number on 2-22-21. Just wondering where we are in the process as of 6-24-21 of getting claims paid out? Thank You

Has anyone received this money? Especially those of us who received the pre-filled document?

Waiting for my remission and wondering how and when I will receive payment . I also see many others wondering where their money is ! Are you scamming me about this payment if not I would like a response as to the progress .
Thank you

Hello, I filed my claim online. Now I just need to update my address. Moneygram remission website is not allowing me login to make any changes. I tried calling to the number listed on their website. It is not working either. How to update my mailing address?

Once you file the claim what is the next step. Or what's the targeted date for payment?

I mailed mine in in May. I had supporting documentation to mail with my prefilled form.

I have heard nothing and cannot get thru to anyone at the law firm, just pre recording.

Is there a way to track my payment? Is there someone I can call to see the status?
