Debt collector returns $2.7 million to victims

Just last week, the FTC mailed checks returning money to more than 5,200 people, thanks to the FTC’s settlement with Rincon Debt Management. People who lost money are getting back the full amount of the fraudulent fees they were charged – an average of $525 – which adds up to more than $2.7 million.

A few years ago, at the FTC’s request, a court shut down the debt collection business, Rincon Management Services LLC, and banned the owners from doing debt collection ever again. The company’s employees had used illegal and abusive practices, threatening people – in both English and Spanish – with arrest and lawsuits if they didn’t pay. They even added fraudulent charges onto people’s debt. This settlement, which required Rincon to repay those fraudulent charges, is part of the FTC’s ongoing enforcement actions to stop abusive and illegal debt collection practices.

When will crooked debt collectors start going to jail? The debt buying industry is full of employees who show no respect for the rules and regulations that govern their enterprise. Criminal prosecution of these employees, who often falsely represent their identity to the consumer, may help to restrain the behavior of the industry as a whole.

They need to make CPS refund ALL CUSTOMERS​ AS ORDERED. GLAD FOR YOU ALL.. GETTING UR MONEY BACK.

my daughter paid a debt settlement co $1300 for services they just took her money now shes in court as they swindled her just like a car co did in 2012 on a car deal she refuses to do anything out of embarrasment

She can report the company to your state Attorney General, and to the attorney general in the state where the company has headquarters. Even if she doesn't want to give her name, she's helping other people by reporting a bad company to law enforcement.

She can also report to the FTC at FTC.gov/complaint, and decide how much personal information to give. The information she gives goes into a database that the FTC and other law enforcement agencies nationwide use for investigations.

I am glad to see the jokers get what is coming to them. I just hope that I get my check for all the write off on my IRS file

I have been contacted by a couple places about debt recovery an been threatened with being arrested an also going to jail on numerous times.

You can report this to the FTC at FTC.gov/complaint. The information you give goes into a secure database that the FTC and other law enforcement agencies use for investigations. The comments you put here on the blog don't go into the law enforcement database.

I have submitted complaints after complaints, and written emails to a lead prosecutor on a case..with lots of info..and I have not received one reply, email, nothing. Mrs Bridget

I just received a post card from a company name Associates, LLC TCPA LITIGATION PROVIDENCE RI reference PORTFOLIO RECOVERY stating that they did not call me I have notices from them and they did call me. I just want to know if this company has authorization to act for the class action administrator.

In late March 2017, the FTC's refund administrator mailed checks to people who lost money to Rincon Debt Management.

The name of the FTC's refund administrator is Analytics, and the company's phone number is 844-330-6742. Analytics is the only company working for the FTC to send refunds for Rincon Debt Management.

When will Identity Theft and Violent crime Victims be protected by Laws that are in place from further injuries by extra cruel Crime helpers like the sharks that suggest they are going to " work with consumers" but just rob them too? :-( Hope you help for their sake FTC

I get about 50 calls a day about Obama care, email today about being sued , and incarcerated over a bogus loan that was not mine. Voice mail from an IRS IMPERSONATOR. MY PRIVACY WAS BREACHED BC OF YAHOO AND GOOGLE. I COMPLAIN AND REPORT, NOTHING IS DONE.

I want to know if this means getting money back from 321 loans (Helping America group) counts in these refunds, I have been paying them since 2014 until April 2017 Over 5,000.00 and they have done nothing I am still getting collects calling and sending me mail
