An Online Payday Loan Or Window To A Scam?

Strapped for cash? You might think an online payday loan is a quick and easy way to help stretch your money. But before you enter your bank account or any other personal information on a payday loan website, back away from the keyboard! That online payday loan might be a window to a scam.

A federal court has granted the FTC an order for contempt in the matter of Suntasia Marketing, Inc., a company previously involved in a telemarketing scheme that bilked consumers out of millions of dollars. This time around, the scammers took advantage of people looking for online payday loans by tricking them into completing an online application. The catch? The website and application were a pretense – an attempt to get people’s bank account information. Once the company had their account numbers, they enrolled unaware consumers in an ongoing membership program for an online mall. But because the terms of the program were obscure and buried deep in the website, there was no way for the consumers to know. And the company took their silence and failure to cancel as acceptance and permission to regularly debit money from their accounts on a regular basis.

So how can you avoid a scam like this one? It can be tough. But knowing how some scam operators work can make you think twice about the sites you visit and what you do when you get there.

  • Keep a close hold on your personal information. Whether your visit to an online payday loan site results in a loan, simply entering information on the site may come back to haunt you. Even if you never hit "Submit" to complete the transaction, your information can be captured through keystroke logging – a program used to see and store everything you enter on application. Scammers can use this information to commit identity theft, or debit money from your accounts.
  • Read the fine print. If the details of any online transaction, application or membership program aren’t apparent and understandable, don’t follow through. Incomprehensible or hard to find details could be warning signs of a scam.
  • Review your bank account and billing statements for unauthorized charges. Regularly reading all your account statements can help you see where your money is going, and help you flag unauthorized billing charges. If you suspect an unauthorized charge, ask your bank or the merchant about it, and dispute it.

If you suspect a scam, file a complaint with the FTC. For more information, check out our Payday Loans and Online Payday Loans article.

they had had me going a year thinking I was going to be garnished from work pay, finally took out of my debit card with out card company and disputed it # they call from..707-637-0905...209-207-7416...800-228-1188...319-731-0157..i really thought I forgot to pay something..took 260.00 one time and just today 275.00 which I did not authorize either...

They change their phone numbers constantly and if you ask them where they are located they will say different places in the U.S but they are located in India. Change your bank account and check your credit reports too.

They been calling my mom my sister telling them if I don't pay 500$ they taking me to court for checks fraud harassing me all day

They been calling my mom my sister telling them if I don't pay 500$ they taking me to court for checks fraud harassing me all day

I was called by Amanda from Johnson's law firm and has anyone been called from 760-230-8069.

I have been called by them too!

Williams just ignore the call..tell them that you know this is a scam..there is only one thing we can do to stop this scam is nothing. As this calls are from india.if we stop green dots card it will be a good blow to them..coz dis is da only way they earn....and collect money.

I've been getting calls from 209-207-7416... The # says California... If they call me and I don't answer they light up my phone and then start calling work and asking for a manager or supervisor... What do I need to do to end this

There's no need to be a dick. Just skip over that comment and move on with your life.

Please listen to me, b/c I have NO time to write this & would hate to think I wasted the effort!Im an Asst Dist Atty & see fraud day in and out. Im amazed when these stories get to me. What kills me,is when victims fail to IMMEDIATELY close that account...THE 1ST TIME IT EVER HAPPENS! Open a NEW account, then. With the NEW different account number & debit card, the thief has no access! It is NOT your name or phone number that matters...ALL that matters, IS: the BANK #, car #s, Date of Birth,Soc. Sec. #, etc. +Go to the bank in person, if you are able. It is good to show a real live person whats going on. BRING ID!(&dont waste time w/ a big story to the teller. Just say, "who do I speak with, NOW, about faudulent activity in my acount?...then, you'll get someone behind a desk.)YOU NEED NOBODYS PERMISSION, BUT YOUR OWN, TO DO THIS. & dont feel like you have to "get them to believe you", either. Just state it as fact. Then...MAKE IT REAL, BY FILING CHARGES, which gives you TONS of financial protection-&you need NOBODYS PERMISSION to do so. You dont need to know who broke in your house, exactly, do you, before you go tell the police you were robbed and they better catch the robbers!, right? The law is different in some states about who and how you report it to the law, so the EASIEST way to cut to that chase is to TELL(not ASK)the person who is helping you close the old and open the new acount...this: "I already know, that, of course, you guys help out with any law enforcement dealing with fraud - but I want to also make a report of the theft, myself, personally. Will you please find out the best contact name for who I should call, and their number from your corporate office? Or, at least get ME in touch with them to get some guidance. I do NOT want to just wander into a police departmment & have it be ignored. NOT enough people bother to prosecute - or even ASK the police to investigate and follow-up, but I DEFINITELY will be." The bank person will tell you all sorts of things and excuses - cuz in truth, they DO NOT want you make a REPORT OF THEFT OF INCOME OR PROPERTY claim, and FILE HARGES (make ERTAIN you do this)...because -- the bank knows they will probably not catch the guys who did this - and would RATHER have you to blame for it, if necessary.**Make CERTAIN your old account is COMPLETELY closed & withdraw every PENNY. You MAY have to take it in cash. Thats ok. Just hold it in your hand for the 5 min it takes her to open the new one, and then deposit it all. Tell her that you want HIGH security & wont accept any automatic charges w/out a call to you 1st. If you have reoccurring monthly bills or debits, call them w/ the new account info, because they wont be able to find it, from the old one (which is the point, right!)Be VERY VERY careful whaT NUMBER YOU ARE CALLING TO SET UP THE NEW AUTO DEBITS! DO NOT CALL THE NUMBERS YOU ALREADY HAVE, INSTEAD, LOOK UP A MAIN SWITCHBOARD NUMBER, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT. iF YOU CANT FIND ONE - THEN WHEN YOU GET THE PERSON YOU NEED TO TALK TO...tell the your prob, and have THEM call or email YOU back, as confirmation that they ARE WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE!!! lastly--at the bank.. JUST THE FACTS. You are NOT asking them to do you a favor. This is business, and YOU are the customer. Be VERY polite, to the POINT, formal and serious. DO NOT TAKE NO for an answer when they try to discourage you from filing charges. Politely. With a smile. You do NOT need to sound like youre "trying," at --either convincing them that it is TRUE (or of anything) OR like you want to explain and explain so you can "hope" they let you "get out" of paying for the charges and withdrawals made...THIS IS YOUR TRUTH: It does not MATTER if it shows that you DID give these people permission to get in your account or use your debit card - because ANY "permission" they have from you, was OBTAINED BY FRAUD. In other words: Yes, you probably WERE tricked into giving someone access to your debit card...beause it is VERY difficult to just "make" a charge on one of those. ***SO IT IS CRITICAL, that you say: THEY WERE ONLY ABLE TO MAKE THAT CHARGE BY stone cold fraud as REPRESENTING themselves and what company they were with, as one that I would recognize doing business with. Tell them: It would be the same thing, as hearing a daughter ask from the next room, "can I get $20?" Its ok, since she's your daughter, so: You give your permission & tell her where your wallet is, and how to open the tricky clasp to it. BUT, IF YOU HAD KNOWN IT WAS ACTUALLY SOME NASTY THUG PLAYING A RECORDING OF YOUR DAUGHTER'S WOULDNT have given "permission/authorization," would you have? So... ***YOU DID NOT, in reality, AT ALL, in ANY WAY...authorize or give permission to the people who took that money from you. They are criminals, and you SHOULD follow-thru. We have caught a few...and forced them to pay their victims back!!! THEY RELY ON MOST PEOPLE NOT GOING TO THETROUBLE TO PRESS HARGES AND FILEA POLICEW REPORT. so do it!!!

wow that was a very strong comment. I appreciate your insite.I have taken your advise in consideration. These basterds have been harrassing me for more then 2 years.I will do anything to make this stop so thank you I'll give it a shot.

I was taken for close to 1000.00 I had a loan which I did not completely pay off.. I had been getting calls at work everyday from these crooks..I set up a payment plan for it paid off 2_weeks later I getore calls saying they would arrest me etc... I called the first company which I had paid in full they ask who is call you I told them then they put me on the line with a supervisor who called the company turns out my account for the loan had been sold to 20 different places all of which where trying to collect in the same loan...

225-331-3020 <--This phone number has continually called me at home, work, and my cell phone! Recently he left me a message threatening me stating that if he does not hear from either me our my attorney I will not like the hell that will be ensued on me and my family! After googling the number online I found out that I am not the only one and he uses a different name every time... Please someone stop this man and put him and/or his company in jail!!

These people are from India pulling the same scheme on tons and tons of people. People have gotten fired from their jobs due to them calling them constantly. They don't only change their names they also change their numbers quite often too. I am doing my research to catch these scumbags because jail is where they belong!!!!

I don't understand how these places were allowed to begin with unless the Government got a kick back off the 400% profit. They are just modern day loan sharks. /if you're in a pinch, take out one of these but pay it off when it comes due. They don't encourage this because they don't make much off it. Be careful or you'll find yourself on that long black train to payday hell.

I don't care what anyone owes these vulchers, the low life collection agents have no idea why your account is delinquent and they are not paid to pass judgement. So if a company is using rude or fear inducing tactics as a way to manipulate vulnerable and decent people, then they have already broken the law because they are prohibited by the law to use aggressive tactics to collect on bad debt. So ignore these bastards as they clearly don't respect the laws that govern their own conduct in collecting debt.

these people are scam artists scamming tons and tons of people, they are a fake company constantly changing their names and phone numbers, they are a group from India with the name of their company DFF, look up DFF complaints and you will see what these scumbags do.

I applied for a online loan, they asked me to put
$250.00 on a green dot money pak. I did and was
told I have red flag on my social security card and to call the federal trade commission and pay them another $100.00 to get the red flag lifted.
I did not the first number for the loan is 818-945-1877 and the number for the federal trade commission is 424-245-6138 can you provide me with any help getting my money back

You most likely will not get your money back. Sorry. The number to the TFC is 1-877-382-4357 File a report

The Federal Trade Commission doesn't collect debt from individuals. The agency doesn't "flag" people's Social Security numbers because of debt either. This is another version of an imposter scam where someone claims to be from a government agency and demands payment. We've written about this in several recent blog posts:

Hello, James, I recently did the same thing, applied for an installment loan, and purchased a green dot money park card and loaded 200.00 and was told I could get a refund back once , I complete the loan transaction. Then I got back telling me I owe taxes for a previous loan and it was reported by FTC. Call Green Dot. Fraud division, they wwill need a copy of receipt and the front and back of the great dot scan, to investigate. I still trying to get my 200.00 refunded. Good luck.

I just got scamed for 400. My last $400 til payday nearly a month

James this just happened to us also. Scum. We got scammed our last 296.00.

I keep getting phone calls the last one was from 717 447 7840. the man on the other end said he worked for the Federal Trade Commission and that he was calling me because of an outstanding balance with US Cash Advance. he said he name was Erick Johnson. I asked when did the FTC call citizens regarding debt. I never got an answer.

I too just received a phone call for a guy representing the FTC. He said he was an officer and he would arrest me. Phone # 850-910-8076.

I have been working through personal debt for a little bit now. If he can't send me something in writing then I pay him no concern.

I have received emails and phone calls as well asking for money for a payday loan in which I never heard of this compay. I did google number and saw it was a scam. Its annoying. I can send you a copy of the latest two emails I received. I told them to go to hell.

The one thing no one seems to be mentioning is this. Most of the calls, if not all of them, are coming via VOIP (voice over internet phone) and they are coming from India yet all the thick accented scammers have very American names. If they were in the United States, this would not fly, but considering they are outside of the country, they will make threats, call repeatedly, curse and try to threaten legal action. Incase you didn't know, here's a few tips. NO law enforcement agency collects debts. They will not call you, they will not ask for money over the phone, they will do none of the things described in previous posts. If law enforcement is looking for you, they sure as hell aren't gonna tip you off and tell you. Secondly, as far as eing sent official looking court papers, again, if they ask for money its a scam. Court papers will be delivered by hand by the local sheriff or other law enforcement authority or sent by certified mail with legitimate contact names and numbers.

Yes you are right they are from India and they change their names and numbers constantly. They told me they would continually call my work until I paid them $300.00 and they called my work 3 days straight robo calling and calling my co-workers names when they answered the phone. They somehow even tied up our lines at work too. Big time lowlife losers they are, cant wait to see the look on their faces when they go down because these scumbags will get caught, I am researching to make sure this happens. Do a search on DFF complaints and you will see the havoc they have caused in peoples lives. Also I believe they read these sites too.

They leave a recorded message stating Hello my name is Arthur Abrum I am the director of the Claims Processing Department of Check Services. I am attempting to service notice on to Michelle Boggs in regards to case file #3134607 naming you as the primary person of interest. at this time you are now considered to be in contempt of this deposition due to lack of response from respoonder. This is your official notification of this process, if you wish to enter a statement on your behalf press 9 to be connected to a processor or you may call us at 877-669-0522. I have received these calls several times and the one time (1/27/14) when I called back they told me that I was going to be charged with Theft by receiving and fraudulant check writing on a payday loan account with Advance America. I requested that they send me a copy of where I owe and they said you will get the copy when you are served with a warrant tomorrow. I called Advance America on the same date and spoke with Lisa whom stated I did not owe Advance America anything, I had paid in full in 2010.

it is a scam, do a research on DFF Complaints and you will see the havoc they cause people, don't send them any money as lots of people have and they still continue to harass them. They are from India scamming lots of people. They change their numbers and names all the time.

You are certainly right...these scammers are from India and they are using good phone technology to have their numbers change frequently....they are professional thieves...THEIR FAVORITE METHOD IS GREEN-DOT...and of course, people who are naïve fall prey to their mischievous tactics.

How do they come to know you took a loan from Advance America..this guys are from india right ? Is somebody from Advance America involved in this ?

Received email from FTC stateing that I had commited fraud by getting a payday loan and not paying on it ,yes I have 2 payday loans but not with the company they are saying and the comp.take themoney out 2 x every month msg.threatened to inform my employers They should be exposed as scammers

The Federal Trade Commission doesn't email individuals about debts. This is another version of an imposter scam where someone claims to be from a government agency and demands payment. We've written about this in several recent blog posts:

My family received a call for someone looking for me saying I was about to go to jail for payday loans. Coincedently it was the same time I had defaulted but I had read about these crooks before. Needless to say I filed my taxes this year and someone has stolen my identity.

I was looking online for a loan I could get without having to use a physical check since I do online banking that was set up with my college a few years ago. I got a call from someone stating I needed to finish my loan application and I needed to pay $1 to a site that would give me my credit score from 3 companies. I didn't do that, but then I kept getting calls from various numbers such as 888-980-1520, 750-432-1533, 643-928-7900, 673-684-4346, and the list just continues. They finally stopped calling once I had my phone's auto block feature turned on to block all calls unless they were in my address book. I left that one for a few days then turned it off and I haven't received anymore calls, except for one. This guy claims that I am being sued by someone, but the guy wouldn't tell me what I was being sued for. When I asked what kind of situations his "law firm" handles, he told me he couldn't tell me and that I would need to talk to his partner and they would give me the information. The day before I actually talked to the guy he left a voicemail stating that I needed to contact him at this number 785-433-4070. After searching for the number I found that it was a scam that other people had encountered and on one of the websites, it gave me a map of the location of the call. After talking to the guy for a couple of minutes, I hung up on him and he called me right back and left a voicemail saying that me hanging up was not appreciated and just for that I would be going to jail the following day at 11am. He said that I would need to have an attorney to represent me and that because I hung up on him that it was not a smart idea since he had my DL number (which I don't have a DL), my address, phone number, email address, social security number, and bank account information. Now when I applied for an online loan, I never entered my bank account information, I'm not exactly sure how or whom I would inform about my SSN possibly being stolen from this guy, if he really does have it. So I waited a few minutes before my husband called the same number, pretended to be my attorney and asked if he was located on street, such and such, in this city and state, the guy claimed he couldn't hear my husband and started blowing into the phone before hanging up. My husband waited 5 minutes then tried calling back only to not be able to get through because his cell phone number was blocked.

These are scam artists from India, they are scamming tons and tons of people out of money they don't even owe. They have gotten people fired from their jobs from constantly robo calling them. Do a search on DFF complaints and you will see. Check your credit reports, these scumbags have somehow gotten a lot of peoples info. They told me my whole social security number, my drivers license number, my email, my home address, where I worked and my checking acct. number(I changed banks but that was my checking acct. number when I banked there). How scary is that? I am researching these people and they eventually will be caught because I am hot on their trail. Lowlife scumbags they are who have no life, I want to see the look on their faces when they are busted from their elaborate scams they are doing.

Someone please help me!! Yes I did attempt to take out an online payday loan. I was told I was guaranteed to receive the loan, but they wanted me to put $120.00 on a green dot card as to show them good faith to them that I would repay the loan. Once they received the green dot payment I was then told that they couldn't give me the loan after all and I would be charged like $490 to cancel the request for the loan. They said they could television it from my bank account, so I quickly notified my bank and had that account closed to keep them from taking my money!! Now they are threatening to arrest me for check fraud!! I'm really nervous about this because I have never been I trouble for anything in my life!! And I NEVER recieved a dime from them to be considered a fraud!! Someone please tell me they can't do this!!!

Please do not feel threatened by these people in any way. They are nothing but scammers. like you said you did not receive anything from them so you owe them nothing. these people took my mother for 1200 dollars. don't worry you have done nothing wrong.

I have a friend who can not seem to believe me when I tell him it's all a scam. He insist on believing he'll get his money any day now. How can I convince him other wise? I even told him to look it up.

The same thing just happened to me. They can not bring any charges against you. They scammed you. Dont lose any sleep worrying about charges against you because they are the criminals.

Wow this just happened to me. They called saying i owe an outstanding payday loan but could not send me any written paperwork. And then when i said i wasn't paying they called me from a 911 number saying i was going too be arrested. I got worry and sent the 100 dollars. Now they said i need too pay 500 more or i will get arrested do they get ssn number and home address? I have observed that people to whom they call have taken loan on past.Is that loan companys provide information to them? I am with you to catch those scammers.

A suggestion.. No matter how enticing those payday loans are, they are in fact, legal predatory lenders and will charge you around 300 percent interest. You will not be able to pay these back, next pay day. Sorry to say I have learned from experience.

716-951-7764 number with recorded robo call from I knew right away it was a scam but it's still annoying when it's calling at 6 AM. Just wanted to pass along this information so they can hopefully be stopped. I also filed a complaint.

I recently went online to apply for a payday loan.. The next I was flooded with all theses phone calls325300165 saying I was approved for a loan and all I had to do was go in a site and pay 1.00 to get my credit score... I told the person with the heavy accent that I already got my score for free but he insists that I need to pay for one on there site.. I told them no and that I know they are running a scam and I told them I was gonna call news channel 7 and expose them.. He hung up.. I tried to call back but it just kept ringing.. Only thing I'm worried about is that they do have my personal info but my credit is so bad that they wouldn't get anything from it... Just the point of them having my info is scary.. Don't know what to do

I got a call from them today at work an then my cell and my work again back and forth for an hour, claiming they were from a law firm called brumley law firm. The guy said hold I'm going to transfer you to an officer so supposedly this officer works there too whatever.they said I got out a payday loan which I didn't they couldn't tell me when I supposedly did this. Just that I was getting sued and going to jail for 30 days. The number that called me was 785-408-7670 it's a number from Topeka, kansas

High-pressure tactics to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested, are signs that this caller could be a fake debt collector. Report it to the FTC at if you think you've received a call from a fake debt collector. It might help stop the scam.

I have been getting a call from RSB Equity Grp saying final attempt and it is a complaint from a financial institution but they don't say who. I or my legal representative need to contact them or they will recommend wage garnishment, bank levy or civil suit. I have been dealing with various calls but never getting anything in the mail and I have been scammed out of $600 before for the same payday loan company supposedly Cash Yes.

These same low life vultures have been bothering me in multiple places. I am really disappointed that they are not hunted down and stopped. I do not care what country they are in. This is getting ridiculous. They call my job, cell, etc. This is crazy!

Watch out for a company call credit Union Bank that is a scam ,a David Alexander/ Jose Sander claims that you get a loan amount of 3000.00,they scam me out of 945.00 greendot Moneypak ,I have been trying to get my money back since February ,2014,watch out for this phone number 9735515642

Ifeel for you Cindy I just got scamed out of $900 this week you keep giving and get nothing

We got hit hard today too. Same thing $911 they said we would be refunded thru the loan once funds were wired. But then we were flagged by the IRS??? For $850 we could still get funded? They lied told us our good faith money was tied up with the IRS so no refund, but $850 could get us our $3000 loan!

scammed out of 1,175 dollars magic jack scammers on green dot pay pal cards,

They got me today for $200.00 same crap green dot card then I called my account where my paycheck is directly deposit to they tell me they will send me a new card but can't change my account number if I report it to the commission then they will close my account and u won't be able to have another account through them how does that work I mean if they want my credit they can have it ill gladly give them my debt if I had any money then I wouldn't need the loan to begin with lol so what to do now they won't be calling me back they hung up on me after I blew up their phones called them repeatedly as soon as they hung up on me I hit send again and again f*ing bastards

Just got a robo call from claiming I am preapproved for a $1000 payday loan. All I have to do is go to their website, sign up and use the code they gave me. Ya, right! The number they called from is 716-945-8947. They called at 8am and it's not legal to make a telemarketing call in my state before 9am. So I definitely knew this was a scam call. Also, it was way to good to be true, the first clue you are being conned. DO NOT go to the website.DO NOT give out your bank and other personal info on any of these sites. They are all scams. A legit company does not do business in this manner. If it's too good to be true, it's most likely a scam.

Received call from 716-304-3921 stating preapproval for $1000 with preapproval code. Called, but found out not true. Wish I had come to this site first.
Several other companies called stating I had been approved for $2000, but had to pay anywhere from $180-250 on greendot moneypak, but I refused. They prey on people who need money.

wirepaytoday woke me this morning, saying a previously rejected loan was now approved. I was asked to press 1, which I did, repeatedly. Kept replaying the "go to website" message. Kept it up during my morning ablutions. About 10 minutes. At least that tied up one of their phone lines, and I hope cost them some money.

they are all scamssssssssssssssssssssss

Got a call from 585-466-8043 saying I was denied a loan in the past but now approved for gold status for 1000$ go wire payday or whatever put in 7707 to get it.i knew they were trying to scam me they blow my phone up everyday all day it's getting to were I want to have my phone service disconnected.they get mad when you tell them you didn't apply for and thing you don't want a loan .then they start cussing you yelling at you I had one call me a stupid b***h and a c**t because I told him to stop calling my phone or I was going to report him he hung up and kept calling me back so I started passing the phone around the room to people and letting them make jokes and him and act like they were trying to sell him something it made him really mad then I told him it wasn't my fault his mom was a goat hearder and that made him really really mad and he hung up so we started calling him back he wouldn't answer needles to say he has never called back.they call from numbers when you call back you can't get through or they are always busy or disconnected area codes from 715. 771 760. 404. 440 850

these people have been calling me for two years now and i have changed my # 7 times how the heck they keep getting my # ?they will not stop calling ,threatening me !please someone catch these $#!!

I received a call from a foreign claiming to be from a law firm, notifying me that a warrant for my arrest was going to be issued. I am going to be charged with check fraud and several other things. He could not tell me who I supposedly had a payday loan from, that I apparently did not pay. He just gave me the name of a big company American Cash. I said I was going to look them up and he told me they are not online.

I keep getting repeated calls from a local#. She stated her name but not where she was calling from. She called me repeatedly like 10 times. She then said it was her final atempt and would be served papers as they have verified my address and work address. When I call # back it says that department cannot receive incoming calls. Some investigation department. Please give me some direction.

Cash advanced USA scammed me out of 300 dollars. They called me and told me to purchase money pak green dot cards. First it was 100 then I had a "red flag" on my ssn so I need 80 more to lift it then I didn't have loan insurance so I needed to pay 30 . Finally I got smart looked them up and it's a scam they call from (551) 200-5885
NJ, USA don't let them scam you!!!!!

The NSA should be helping put a stop to these ass-hats. It's their responsibility in the USA to do so.
The phone scam terrorism needs to stop.

Ive had calls from the david alexander guy saying i got a loan from cash america i called them personally spoke to a lawyer after i was told i wld be going to court for it. I necer recieved a loan. I had started to apply for one but never finished. He swore i had gotten it called me a liar. The lawyer informed me it was a scam. I still 4 years later get calls and refuse to answer but it is now even on my credit report.

I have received one phone call from 3073167491 to my cell phone. I called them back to see who they were, they didnt say, just "give me $300 before I send you to court and the cops will arrest you." I told them to mail me the documentation to prove. I had this bill. It may be a true bill may not be, just send me the proof from 4 years ago. Philip is now calling my place of work, a hospital, and tying up emergency lines.
Security and the police are working on this. I will probably lose my job over this "so called bill". I will sue the company that made me lose my job. He is using my cell phone number to call into the hospital looking for me, he is calling other floors, etc. I had to change my cell phone number. which costs money to do. I am very worried about losing my job.

I got a call from a 2052770085 talking bout they go arrest me they have a bodily attachment against if I don't pay the 330 dollars for a loan I applied for. But they called my sister and said it was for Wells Fargo but when I calles it was loanshop these low life have me scared straight they new all my info idk how they got my job number I gave them my debit card info cause im thinking man Im bout to go to jail what do I need to do please help

You need to cancel that card and close your bank acct ASAP!!!!! YOU WERE NEVER GOING TO JAIL they knew your info from off of your credit report you need to contact the police and your bank IMMEDIATELY to report this and to make sure they dont get your money because youll never get it back

Heres an idea. everyone that is getting calls need to do this. document every possible phone # these asses call from and give them a "taste of their own medicine" by repeatedly calling them back with a *67(phone # here). I would bet that eventually they will stop using that #. I realize they will just start using a different # but someone needs to start somewhere.

Received a call that stated "we are very concerned for you and will need to speak with you immediately." Received several calls, back to back. I called back after listening to the voicemails. The phone rang 10x and an automated answering service picked up the line. It did not state the name of the business just stated to leave a message. I did not leave a message, however a call was immediately returned. I spoke with a lady and she asked if she could verify information. She them stated that she needed to connect me to a compliance officer. Once on the phone with "Frank Watson" he was able to provide me with very detailed information including : banking institution, previous address, current address, previous employer and social security number. After giving me that information "Frank" stated that I owed $790 immediately or I would need to surrender to authorities or they would come to my residence and detain me this evening. He told me that he would give me an hour to call family to get the money paid. He then offered me to pay 60% and finish the payment within 30 days. Before hanging up he wished me the best and said he wanted me to resolve this issue. If I did not resolve the issue within hours I would be detained on a level 3 felony. Please excuse the misspelled words and poor grammar. I am unable to edit this post. Sarah Austin/Houston Texas

The people that contacted me were americans they didnt even have a hint of a foreign accent.the number theyve been using now is 516-208-2876.the woman tells you she is nicole tarantino with the law office of thomas & keane in New York.the only problem with that is when you google the law office theres no match.theres an attorny with the name of thomas keane and hes a defense lawyer smh i almost fell for the whole "federal charges for meticulously deceiving the bank that gave you the loan" mess until i said i had no kind of credit/debit card and i wasnt going to buy a prepaid card no matter what the consequences and she got mad. When she called again and i let her know that i found who really owned my debt and we had set up our own arrangement she began to curse at me tell me id go to jail for contacting the person who owned my debt and cursed about the gentleman i spoke to.i let the real debt company know what was being said too.the next day(2 days ago) the woman who called me said she was "officer cynthia" from a county i lived in for 10 years and still have family in but my caller id showed a number that was in the town i lived in.after they hung i notified the real debt collector again and they went to extremes to help me.they called again the next day(yesterday)and by then id already read articles like this and knew what was happening so after i answered and let "nicole" begin her tirade then i cut her off and i told her this:dont you and your scamming friends ever call me again and i hope you stay on here because the ftc and fbi are recording all phone calls on my phone because of you dumb people.THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!!!!! Have a blessed day and may GOD bless you always.she started stammering then said huh?what? Then hung up.i havent heard another word since.i know i lied but i knew itd get them to leave me alone lol and they never got 1 red cent from me either

I have applied to a loan company who said I have to pay 1st installment in to a bank account.done this then they called me and said I have bad credit and need to pay 155 then get the loan and get the 155 back. They said it is tax. Is this a scam

Hi, dondon,

Legitimate lenders usually take out any fees that you owe from the money you borrow. Check out our article about Advance-Fee Loans. It says: "Scam lenders may say you’ve been approved for a loan, then call or email demanding a fee before you can get the money. Any up-front fee that the lender wants to collect before granting the loan is a cue to walk away, especially if you’re told it’s for insurance, processing, or just paperwork."

I have applied to a loan company who said I have to pay 1st installment in to a bank account.done this then they called me and said I have bad credit and need to pay 155 then get the loan and get the 155 back. They said it is tax. Is this a scam

They said it is tax for the loan as I have bad credit.they said I have to pay tax on the loan because it a loan from black market and not work they said I would get the 155 back with the loan in half hour after it is paid in to santander bank account. I have deposited 125 fir the first loan installment can I get this back

Cash advance lady name linda mathis told me the same thing about the tax on the load that I needed to pay 50 for the tax like a fool I sent the money....long story short I called my bank and the police filed a report on them

Has anyone heard about these loan companies that want to give you a loan for amounts up to $2500, but because your credit is poor want you to verify you have funds available to repay?

I feel for you i was scamed out of $900 and got no loan

I applied for payday loan on the website asked for my info gave it to them. Thinking they were legit bought a green dot money pak card loaded 250$ then loaded anther one with $350 my rent money thinking I was getting the loan. Then from there they called me saying I was going to get sued by bank of America I asked y they told me bs now I'm scared there after me . Can they sue me if I didn't recive nothing yet I'm getting a lawsuit?

I haven't paid my pay day loan for a half and a half. Upon making more money I decided to give them a call to set up payments ect. But after I called I received an automated message saying the company(Cash Express Direct) had went out of business. How am i supposed to pay them back?

I was told what everyone else was told some indian accented guy who claimed his name was Shawn Williams told me I needed to get a 211 MoneyPak card stayed on the phone with me my drive there then waked for me to get the numbers then told me my find were on block because of a bad credit score so I need to put another 200 on a different money pak I told him I reloaded the first 1 and he said that's impossible you can't do that I need a whole new 1 so I took the phone to my sister whos a lawyer and she was livid at me because she asked him who did he bank with and he hung up on her but called right back and said so do you have the other 200 or what. She then asked for his address and he laughed and hung up again but called right back and asked me again so are you able to get the other 200. I'm devasted and upset I couldn't even cry because I know I'm smarter than that but once your really desperate for money you go through lengths. Theyre calling from 7542108889 and an 888

well after reading all these scam artist, and feeling so stupid for believing in these creeps! I also have been taken for nearly 2,000. dollars and still being harassed and promised a loan. they are so convincing, each time you give them one amount then they connect you with another loan officer, and demand more for fees. I told them I have no more money to get more cards, and they get more upset with you. I told them I had been scammed by them then I get a call from someone who claims to be from the federal trade commission that was working for the FBI, he took all my personal information as well as all the numbers on the green back cards. As soon as he got what he wanted turned me back over to this same guy that was demanding me for more money. This has really been tough and has been a financial nightmare for me and family. I was counting on this loan to pay my bills, including my home payment. I have nothing left now except green cards that is a bad reminder of how bad people can be.. I cannot believe I can be so stupid! I hope karma comes their way in a big way...

If you receive a call from someone claiming to work for the FTC, take down their name and hang up. Then, contact the agency’s headquarters at (202) 326-2222 and ask to speak with the staff person who called you. Verify that the call is in fact from the FTC. If they call you and ask you for money you can be sure it is a scam. You can file an online complaint at or call 1-877-FTC-HELP.

Thank you, I just wish that I could retrieve my money.

Anybody got acall from 682-841-2213 ????

Received a phone call from 218-429-4037 with a threating voice message to both my cell and work number from a guy with an Indian accent. I recently filled out an online application for a pay day loan which I have not taken. When I called the number, some other guy answers the phone, "Something Law firm." I asked him to repeat it and still did not catch the name. I then was in the process of telling him whatever the name of the firm, I know this is a scam and not to call me anymore. I was hung up on mid sentence. Beware!!!!

didn't put money or green dot card but they have my information and they have been calling regliously. I will not be sending them anything but afraid of being scammed because they have my information.

did not send money but they have my information. afraid they may use fraudulently

Once they asked for green dot card, I hung up but now they keep calling and have my acct info, I called bank they said they usually don't mess with bank accounts just get people to buy green dot cards but they flagged my account for safe measures....have they taken any money out of y'all accounts or just the green dot cards bc now I want to close my account.

I received many calls from 360-849-7002 today. The man left a voicemail and stated that his name was Roy Jackson and that I or my attorney should call him back or legal action would be taken. So me being tired after a long day and being completely scared after this voicemail, I called them back. He had all this information about me saying that I owed $8,000.00 or something. He said that I was being accused of fraud and that id I didn't pay today that I would have a warrant out for my arrest and that there would be police at my home and my job to arrest me first thing in the morning. That being said, in my scared s***less frame of mind, I didn't all. I should've noticed the signs of scam. Anyway, He was asking me about my financials and when I would ask what exactly he was calling for he wouldn't tell me. He didn't offer any information until I asked what I had to do to take care of it. He had me drive to an atm and get as much cash as I could get and put it on a green dot card. I lost $400.00. He told me that I needed to pay another $250.00 in 2 weeks or I will end up getting arrested.
My question to y'all is, If and when they call again, how do I handle it? or should I just ignore them till they stop calling? I need some help!

Our advice is to stop speaking to them. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing. You can find more tips on how to handle calls from a fake debt collectors here.

These cockroaches took my last 3 bens bastards

Received a phone call from 218-429-4037 as well to my job threatening of a law suit, told them i would call them back and he didn't want to hang up finally he gave me the number and hung up. He called me back because i did not call back at the time i said i would which i was just waiting for my lunch time, i finally was able to call back they asked for my info which i didn't give to them I told them if you called me you should have my info and it was weird i never got anything on the mail to which they said they emailed me, so i told them i dint get anything because it probably goes to my scam then told them not to call me anymore and hung up. They called my cell phone almost right away more than once finally i answered and told him to tell me what i was being sued for then he said let him get my file and transferred me to someone else then i had enough and said do not call me anymore if i am being sued i will wait for my local authorities to contact me because you are scaring me he hung up without saying a word. I believe something official will come with a letter first and not all the workers will have the same Indian accent beware do not give out any info and it works to mention the authorities...

Received a call after 4 years saying I owe for a past due payday loan which I know I do. The call came from area code 949. The guy said they have been trying to serve me at my current address and previous address. The problem is I haven't had any one show up at my door. Also, they said I will be served on the 15th between 12 am and 12 pm. I thought about it and called back and spoken to the guy and he said he couldn't talk to me and hung up. Afterwards a friend called the number and the guy couldn't give him the name of the company. Later on I tried to call again and the phone number was disconnected.

My sister was taken by these scammers< she was really desperate for money so she filled out and online app for a loan. They called her back to say she had been approved for 1500 dollars. But first she had to verify that she had the means to pay it back so she had to pay 165 dollars from a green dot card. All she had was 30 dollars so she asked me to loan her the rest, which I did, but I should have known better. My first red flag was when she told me she had to pay money to get money, that just didn't sound right to me. But she paid the 165 and they put her on hold for a very very long time, they kept coming back on saying we are verifying everything with your bank ect ect. Then they came back on and said ok you can pick the money up from western union, but first you have to pay a $400 processing fee. What!!!! If you apply for a loan that means you need money, so how is she suppose to pay that?! So that is when I stepped in and tried to tell her that that was a scam but she wouldn't listen. She talked them down into $250 but I had already had enough. so I stopped by the western union to see if this had some truth to it and sure enough she told me that we were being scammed. What ever you do not send anybody any money if you do not know them. And you never have to pay money to get money. And lastly in the state that I live in you cannot receive a loan over the phone no matter how good it sounds. Please be careful!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. You can file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at

I had been receiving these phone calls fro a michelle Jackson and agent dibbs from rapid recovery for a month now on a pay day loan I took out almost three years ago well the other day I had gotten a call and was told that if I did not contact them that I would be arrested for check fraud and theft by deception so me being scared due to never being in trouble before I paid them 225.00 which was my rent money for the month and then they proceeded to tell me I still owe them 1060.00 by Monday after looking up the number and finding out that it is a landline phone I put a report in to the attorney generals office and with the bureau of consumer protection the number is as follows so that no one else gets scammed out of money like me and my family 1-630-701-7763

just today I was on the phone with alan cooper, said he was from Rhode Island and we had gotten approved for $10,000 we waited for 3 days to judt get a response from them my husband had filled out a app for a loan for $10,000 he sent $943.00 ntoday and never got his loan,he put $298 on a green dot card and $645 ON A re-load it card and then they tell him he was .89 short and he needed to re-do all the funds,we just wanted to get ahead on bills since Christmas is right around the corner and we have out daughter, her husband and 2 grandkids and 1 one the way living with us,i cried for about 5 hours and screamed they f----d us and all the could do was call again, the number is 847-454-7980,i spoke with alan cooper, john baker & andy downs

They told me 1000 will be added to my Citibank account for I was approved for a loan of that amount then they said I would have to show 180 dollars first when I tried to ask more questions they hang up but yet they called my phone all day from different numbers and yes they did have a western Indian like accent I can hardly understand a damn thing there saying and they have the nerve to speak fast as hell and get angry when you say slow down

I got scammed last wk too. I was trying to get a loan from a guy with a thick accent. I filled out many online applications and got probably a 100 calls a day. I'm aware of online scams, but since I was getting so many different calls from so many different #'s, I thought there had to be some legitimate ones out there. This guy said he was from TD Bank. I looked up TD Bank online, and it it legitimate. He had me put $275 on green dot money pak for funds verification so he could see I could afford to pay the loan back. He told me it would be deposited into my acct in about 30 min but called back saying my credit was too bad and I had to pay another $179 to Western Union!!!!! I said to cancel my loan and give me my $275 back, and he said he couldn't do that. I've also been called by numerous so called law enforcement agencies & attorneys telling me they're looking for me for check fraud for some cash advances I never took out. They use phrases like "a restraining order has been issued against you" I was contactd by some of the same ones I read about on here. I even filed a police report about the scam I was involved in, but they said they couldn't do anything to catch them. This is so awful how this is allowed to go on!!!!! This is completely criminal activity, and they're praying on broke people with bad credit, and no one is doing anything about it!!!!!

It’s best to stay about from lenders who ask you to wire money or pay with a pre-paid card to get a loan. This is a sign of a scam. The article Advance-Fee Loans provides six sure signs of an advance-fee loan scam.

I been receiving calls all day from guys with thick accents asking me to put 150 on a visa card

Jake Thompson Phone # IS 1-773-377-6843 AND Dave Jones Phone # 1-312-473-7061 They Claim To Be CASH USA PAY DAY LOANS. They Are Scammers Do Not Give Them Any Information or Money Hang Up On Them. They scammed Me Out Of $565.00 Useing Green Dot MoneyPak Cards. They Are The Scum Of The Earth Beware.

It started for me in May 2014, I applied online payday loan. And with the legit, for lack of a better term, payday loan lenders, I received calls from these guys with Indian/Pakistani accents. They had very american names and used bank names like GE Capital, Citibank and the likes. They get hyped and u think you are about to have loan deposited in your bank account. Then they drop the bomb, my credit score was below 640 and need to prove I can repay the loan. Now comes the rub, get a green dot card or some other prepaid card to load the 1st months payment. Call them with the card info and they will verify the funds are there. Now comes the moment of truth, I advise them, no one pays for loan in this country upfront. Explained as loan operations banker, me, that this is a scam. They become belligerent, offended and still try to sell the deal, never bit. The become abusive, threatening and the hate being made fun of, they would hang up and call back repeatedly. I have had hundreds of these calls and I too report them to the FTC. Seems like everyone on this forum shares their experience whether they were scammed or were close to being scammed. The FTC and FBI tells us the do's and don'ts but here's my concern, what are law enforcement doing about these scammers. This has been an issue for more than seven(7) years at a cost of $5Million a year unsuspecting distressed Americans. And it's not just us, UK, Australia, Ireland and amongst a few others. But the theme is the same, we share our experiences, we report and file complaints with the appropriate law enforcement and regulatory agencies. But it appears that's as far as it goes, no arrest, no pressure from the state department to lean on the Indian government and crack down on these practices. They log our complaints and that is it, seems to me it's not something that our government wants to deal with. We talk about national security, but we don't see this as a threat considering these scammers have purchased lists from the loan referral sites, at, get this $0.20 a pop. They have our drivers license numbers, our SS#, Addresses, phone numbers and so on. They may not be able to get credit using our info but they use our identities for other neferious activities.

You can go to your local county clerk's office, or contact them to look up the background of these businesses before you deal with them. They seem to be a necessary evil? People need money and other people are willing to give it to you. Avoid the scams though, they are in the plenty. You can do your research contact your clerk and find out if they are legitimate. Safe travels :)

just leave numbers below I will call them all day and night like they do you

If they call you nonstop just Google some soundboards and have some fun, it seemed to have helped me.

I did a loan online and was told no every time. Then I started getting these calls from 682-888-5811 9173106649 7328738647 9032181328 all these foreign people with American names start telling me I was approved from an installment loan for $8000 if I go get a cash verification of $250 to prove I could pay back the loan. Almost fell for it too. The phone was so full of stactic I couldn't ever hear. So I felt like if you can give me $8000 you can get a better phone system. God bless them they try so hard. People they don't care if you lose everything they just want your money. Had to share my experience they are calling now I'm using my Indian voice then my country voice now my black voice and they keep calling. Hahaha jokes on you.

Yeah they got me. I applied for a installment loan and I was getting a call from a Indian lady names Tiffany jones but I wasn't thinking just needed the money and and never stop to think that this lady was from India. They told me to load money onto a green dot moneypak to pay for registration for federal funded Ge Capitol bank had me on hold forever to retrieve the $105 from the card then told me it was and error 404 that kept coming up when they were trying to transfer fund they also went as far as to say my bank won't accept eft transfer which was bull. They said we can send it thru western union but they needed $286 to deactivate the western union code. Beware the called from 954-312-7500 and another scammer is 413-629-3424. I'm changing my acct not sure how deep this can go but to cover myself I'm closing my acct and opening another.

Scammers 954-312-7500 and 413-629-3424. Moneypak scammers from India. Change your bank account and beware Indians with American names. Ruthless and conniving.

sm!scammed me for 5000$ as a bad credit score

I keep getting phone calls from different numbers. The last one today from"VictoriaJames" from (713) 316-4965, stating she was from Texas Mediation Services. I was really upset and called and told her that I was going to call my lawyer and the police because the message she left was against the law. She proceeded to called the "B####" word and then I got more upset and called her stupid a***. She started screaming and I just started saying lalalala and hung up on her. Is going to the police worth my time? She did not have an i dian accent. Not be stereotypical, but she sounded African American.

I got the same call from same number that I have to pay today or a warrent will be issued for a payday loan bunch of bull crap wat do I do

Mine was from filling out the online application for a payday loan and I am not a stupid person but have been very stressed and desperate to get a loan to get my situation under control. If I had not been so desperate i wouldn't have believed what they were saying but hoping hope against hope and hope that you can get a loan. Of course no loan just excuses. Took me for $695.00. Phone number is 210-607-4016 and the names are Alex White and Mark Johnson. Still can not believe I fell for this.

I was conned out of hope and desperation. I feel like such an idiot because I knew I was being taken, but I was just hoping so much it wasn't true. I lost over $600 on these green dot cards and I don't know what to do. I hate myself for letting it go so far. Initially the call was from San Diego (619)870-9619 and the names are clearly fake as they are obviously Indian. Names are Mike Johnson and Mark something. Then they transfer you to the (210)607-4016 and the last name is Smith- clearly fake as well. I just want to cry. I'm so sorry for the other people going through this.

HELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!! Hey i got a call and said i was approved for a 5000 installment loan. But first they needed to send 700 to my account for good faith and verification. Once i received it i was to withdraw it and load it on a moneypak card and call with the number. Anybody heard of this one???????? The company is "speedy cash" and the # is 530-207-3168???????

I did but not from Speedy cash from 24x7 loan Don't do it!!!!!!

Anyone receive a text from +1 (917) 768-6559

Has anyone been threatened to be served legal documents from Laden Asset Group? They supposedly came to my house the other day but I wsdn't home. Now they are threatening to come to my job.

If this is a debt collector, you have rights under federal law. We’ve written on this blog about it before and you can also find information about your rights in this article. Debt collectors are prohibited from saying that legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action. In addition, debt collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there.

Someone calling from a NCS GNC Associate On a 844 816 1740 demaining money on a loan

A John Reese Calling my job from a number 8448161740 stating he's private investigator demanding money from loan.

Many credit unions are offering "fresh start" and "second chance" unsecured loans for those with not so good credit. Most of these special loan programs are capped at $1000 dollars but come with a decent apr. InfoAviator has a list of these credit unions offering these loans

I was scammed last year by these people and how i wish and pray to God that they would be stopped! Unfortunately i am in need of a loan again and without a good enough credit score I am sunk. I put in an app on line again and it started all over! Now they are saying that ther is a money card that is made specially for this issue and it is government approved and certified! Well i have not seen any card like this yet so has anyone else???

Called and left a message that there are serious allegations against me and that i need to call and give a statement immediately. Failure to do so will result in action against me. Funny thing this call came from 213-375-0448 and last week they called twice from 760-314-6285...same recording and that I needed to call 855-573-1643. How do i stop them from calling me?

I got a phone call yesterday from a tx number saying I took out a payday loan on the internet in January 2013 with advance LCC that I had to pay them 1745.25 or I would go to jail that I needed to get a defense lawyer or turn myself into my local authorities I paid them $300 dollars like a idiot then I was telling my co workers what was going on they told me it was a scam I needed to go to my bank and stop the transaction and cancel my debit card but the scammers said they are aig investigation but here is the phone numbers 210-774-4134,832-783-9180,210-762-6767 just seeing if anyone eles has been contacted by these people

I am an Asst Dist Attorney. You absolutely were scammed, and your co-workers were right. NEVER, EVER, under ANY circumstances, make payments in this manner. The phone numbers, are irrelevant. Let me repeat that for the hundreds of people here listing phone numbers: PHONE NUMBERS ARE IRRELEVANT. Any person can get any number they wish, with absolutely ANY area code, on the Internet, and often - for free, Many scammers never use the same number twice! QUIT thinking, that area codes, have anything, at ALL to do with the physical location of your caller. It does NOT, anymore. I could have 10 phone numbers in 10 minutes, right now, and use them from my computer, for free, right call YOU. All I need is your number, and that could be connected with absolutely anything. People: THE KEY QUESTION TO ASK IS *** "DO YOU or THIS COMPANY, *LEGALLY OWN* THIS DEBT?" Most of the time, they do not. Theyt are either straight-up scammers, or they are "free-lance-collectors," to whom YOU do not personally, owe a dime - AND, who are famous, for constantly screwing up doing and filing all the steps needed to have your payment officially be posted and counted. Thats right! If you CANNOT get them to SAY the sentence, "Yes, I am the, or represent the legal owner of this debt." then hang up. When you GET a collection call...interrupt THEM, and make THAT be the 1st question you ask. ******IF the DO say, that YES, they ARE the legal owner of the debt.:" Then, politely tell them that:
"Oh, yes! I look forward to paying this off! I'm glad you called! However, of course i will need you you provide me with written proof that you are, indeed the rightful, legal representative of this debt, ***ASREQUIRED BY STATE AND FEDERAL LAW*** so, do you have my mailing address?" Ususally...they hang up on you, at this point. If not- give them your work address, if possible. If not, and you feel nervous about telling whomever this is where you live...then simply say : MY ADDRESS ISSTILL THE SAME! ...I mean, they HAVE all your legal paperwork, right? why should YOU have to tell them your address?????

Has anybody heard of Tim Cooper with 24x7 loans 1-872-588-4348?

Got a call on restricted line. Women call Tammy. She said they were going to levy and freeze my bank account over unpaid credit card for $6,000.00 Well I told her I never had any credit card. Which is true. She said I had paid on it before. She had all my personal info. This took me back. I checked my accounts and credit report. It perfect. No cards, loans or balances. I asked for a phone number to have my lawyer to call back she started yelling at me and told me she wouldn't go over this with me again. So I guess she was caught in the act of deception.

Got an email from a bryan moore at 313-332-4900...i had just gotten a new debit card after a recent hack...they had my info??? and wanted to loan me $1000 to $5000...go figure! I had to call to hear the accents of this very english name from detroit...and yes, the person spoke with hinglish inflection...actually a nice change from spainglish here in the southwest...

They got me too 115 dollars went down the drain because of this i will never fall for that again

If so, they have everyone's bank act.information, address and everythinf.. please help me and respond asap.

Here are some answers to your questions:

1) Unfortunately, technology allows scammers to make it so that calls look like they're coming from a different number, but they could be anywhere in the world.

2) No, they can't issue a warrant for your arrest for owing money. The caller was most likely threatening you into paying, which is illegal. However, a company can sue you if they think you owe them money so if you get documents from a court, pay attention. You need legal advice.

3) If you took out a loan and didn't pay it, it is possible that the debt was sent out for collection. But, federal law prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.

I am so sick of these payday scams...just received a call from 323.244.2927. They state that they are going to serve me at work. Doesn't a company just serve you and not tell you ?

I have for the last several months, been receiving calls from three different numbers without any caller ID. Three days ago, I received two calls from two different numbers and finally answered one. I was told I had been granted a Payday loans for $750 in July of 2012. Interesting, they told me that the money had been electronically into my checking account which was not opened until May 21, 2013. They are threatening to put a lien on my a t and report me to the State Attorney. Furthermore, I never electronically for it at my bank. These people should be investigated immediately for excessive fraud, harassment, and should be investigated immediately. These people are annoying and scary. M S Wood

The best thing to do is hang up the phone. Also, you can file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at The details you provide could be important if there's an investigation.

well i just need to know how we get the info from the jail that issued me the card and put money on that card from time to time you know not enough to notice

The dark side of modern technology. I can only underline the advice: Be careful what information you leave on websites. Thanks to a good web design the web pages are often indistinguishable from the original banks.
