AT&T Unlimited Data Customers Getting Refunds

You might have heard that AT&T agreed to return $60 million to customers for allegedly reducing the data speed on their unlimited data plans without telling them.

In its 2014 complaint, the FTC said that AT&T’s practice of data throttling – slowing down the data speed for unlimited customers who used large amounts of data – was unfair and deceptive. It was unfair because AT&T promised unlimited data, but didn’t give customers the data they paid for. And it was deceptive because AT&T didn’t tell customers it was reducing their data speed, says the FTC.

Customers who pay for unlimited mobile data have a right to expect to get unlimited data. If the company will slow down the data speed for users who exceed a data cap, it must tell customers it’s going to do that.

After the court approves the settlement, the money will be distributed to AT&T customers who signed up for an unlimited data plan before 2011 and were affected by the data throttling. Customers do not have to do anything to get their portion of the settlement: current customers will get a credit on a future bill and former customers will get a check in the mail.

What if I have a different address now? Where will they mail the check to?

Will AT&T be allowed to throttle the unlimited plans from prior to 2011 going forward? So, if I have a grandfathered plan of unlimited data will they continue to throttle after the settlement?

Att&t over charging me! Pay for $70 Per month for each phone—- unlimited data, but they slow down data— customers services are rude!

That’s my situation too - I’ve been a customer since 2009 & have had unlimited since that time - Even if they charged $10 extra et month for the unlimited that’s $120 per year times 9 years comes to $980 for me easily! And yet all I got was a text message today saying there will be a credit in next billing cycle as a result of this settlement - they don’t tell you how much & for how long they will be crediting the amount for the total amount owed - this is a cop-out!

have you received that credit yet. and how much are you getting

Please add my name to the list. I got rid of At&t for that reason. Now I'm having issues with Verizon doing the same.

I received a text message today which states I will receive a credit on my next bill. I called the number in the text message and reached AT&T billing. The rep says he does not know the credit amount and will not know it until I receive it.

How much should we expect as a refund. I just got a text from ATT that I’ll get a refund

Got this as a text message today: AT&T Free Msg: You will get a credit on your next bill as part of a settlement between AT&T and the Federal Trade Commission. For more information, you can contact us at 877.777.0563 and dataplanstlmt @ amcustomercare. att-mail. com

I don't even care to google it because of all the scam texts lately!

the last time I got a settlement check, it was $3 and change. hopefully this one is actually substantial. I have been a customer for over 10 years.

How can we find out how much credit we are owed. I understand it will be automatic but is there a calculation in place how this fine is being distributed, or it's at AT&T's discretion

I received this info from AT&T to get info about my settlement 877-7770563 or email dataplanstlmt @am customrtcare. att-mail.

How much is it going to be or how do they figure out how much u get ?

So what amount are we gonna receive in this AT&T suit

Just got a credit on my AT&T wireless bill related to the settlement. $12. I have had an “unlimited” data plan since 2007 and experienced throttling regularly. What a joke.

I see a credit 01/10 for 12.89. So I'm getting 10 credits of 12.89? Anyone else?

We are in 2020 now I’ve been a AT&T customer since 2008, we were throttled a lot of the time we have been with them. I still haven’t seen a credit on bill. Who do I contact about it?

I just received a text from AT&T that I will credit on my next bill as part of the settlement between AT&T and the FTC.

I have been with AT&T since long before 2011 and have always been on the so-called ‘unlimited’ plan - the Qs is how much is AT&T going to refund me - we are talking about 9 years (108 months) of making me pay extra for services (unlimited data) not delivered - even if that was $10 extra per month my refund should be over a $1K easily - I just got a text message from AT&T saing they will be giving me a credit next billing cycle due to this settlement but fail to mention how much that credit will be and if they owe me over a $1K how do they expect to pay that to me in just one billing cycle? My whole bill should be paid off not just for next month but the WHOLE YEAR based on how much they owe me. I appreciate FTC’s efforts immensely but it would be good if they could go the extra mile and also make the terms of these compensations abailable to the public. That will ensure AT&T and others who play similar games with customers don’t get to hide behind lame excuses & easy cop-outs!

HOW MUCH IS THE CREDIT? LOL I'VE BEEN AN UNLIMITED CUSTOMER WITH AT T SINCE 1995 LOL I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT THANKS

What month & year should we expect this credit to be applied.

Everyone should be mailed a check. I don't want my account credited. I want my money back.

I have been an ATT customer for years. Many of times I questioned my bill. And my overcharges....although I had "unlimited data"... I'm still att customer..but I would rather receive a check , instead credit to my att account. .

So does this include the insane price hikes for those of us consumers who where grandfathered in to the unlimited plans. I’ve had the same plan since 2009. Although they have tried to change the plan on several occasions I’ve complained and ultimately my plan was put back. I’m just not sure they can legally raise the prices of these grandfathered plans especially without notice. Also they are still capping my unlimited data.

I had the plan from 2008-2015. I got the text and notification. How much we talking? Id be happy with 50 bucks off my bill.

This is only for people who signed up BEFORE 2011.

I use to complain all the time in the last 15 years of being an unlimited data customer. The refund will never add up to what you actually paid. I was paying close to $80 a month to have it on 2 phones and it lagged the whole entire time. When I would check my usage it was hardly used?!? I guess it’s better than nothing.

The money isn't what we want as consumers. I doubt the $60mm divided by number of customers minus legal fees will be very much. How do we let at&t keep their money and get the unlimited data we signed up for?

Just got a $33.07 credit. Unlimited data customer since 2002.

This is a joke. I called many times regarding this throttling and find out now that I’m getting $12.86 refund as part of the settlement. Yet they collected (for several years from me an extra $50/month) I believe AT&T have inflated their lawyers fees to protect themselves from paying the consumers the actual amount owed to them. This is a scam

I don’t understand how I’m supposed to unlimited data through AT&T... but the last 10-12 days of the month it’s says data is low and internet lags or freezes!!!

I have been with att since 2011 I had unlimited data plan but would get text messages saying that I was over.my bill is usually 700-800 per month.i do have about 5 to 6 people on my plan.why do they have to credit your bill. They should send everyone their refund It should be the customer's choice if you want to credit your bill.the customer should be in controll of that issue Barbara

I was with them for years and only got a $12 check.

AT&T has approximately 153 million wireless customers. Let's assume that 100% of those customers have unlimited data. If you take $600 million, the total amt of the settlement, divided by the total number of customers, the refund / person is ~$4. That's the most conservative estimate.

I had AT&T for years and was happy with their service...until getting the new iPhone and switching to their unlimited data plan. That's when the troubles began. I spent countless hours talking with their support reps before dropping them for a better carrier. Today, I got justice! Well, sorta...I received my settlement check for $12.09. SMH

To answer everyone’s question...I received a check for $12.09. Amazing how I had AT&T for YEARS and that’s all I got back. It sucks extra because I stayed with them way longer than I should have, but couldn’t leave because everyone stopped offering unlimited plans. So let’s do a little math. $140 a month for 8 years is $13,440. That equals $12.09 back. What a joke.

$12.09? Really ?
Going to have to find the copy of a chat log I had with AT&T rep about this same issue I had with my “unlimited plan” that was throttled back in 2008/11 claiming that they “weren’t throttling “
and were cleared of the charges at that time.

Doesn’t look like the settlement took into account the number of subscribers who were forced to convert to family shared plans with increased costs and limited GB to get out of the throttling. I paid far more that an additional $12.09 /mo for years - so how did this settlement only result in a check for $12.09?
I left AT&T due to the increasing costs , frustration from above practices and terrible home coverage.
All problems have been solved since switching.

I was a customer from 2008-2019 with an unlimited plan not offered anymore ... my average bill was over 120$ a month. I was Sent a refund check for 31 $. This is massively disrespectful. I am now deciding to cancel all my service plans and finding a new provider.

My daughter Kathy received a refund today 2/12/20 . She deceased on 6/7/18. Can I get the check reissued to her son that has taken over her account?

Please contact AT&T.

You get $12.00

Years of throttling. This is insane. I paid thousands of dollars to this company and NEVER received the service I was promised.

Now. You want to send a $12 check to make up for it? This is corrupt.

Just received my bill and I recieved a credit of $12.86. On my bill it was typed as, ATT Mobile Plan Credit. I have 2 phones with unlimited data plan before 2011. Is that all the credit I should be suspecting out of the settlement?

I have had 4 unlimited phone lines with them since the day the bought out the original company. I should hope I will be recieving more than $12. What is the latest info about check amounts?

Si where are the refunds? We are almost 90 days in? Has anyone received credit. I’ve been customer since 2003!

I was an At&T customer for many years with "unlimited" service. I have moved since then and I have yet to receive a check. Is there any way to verify that I am indeed in the system?

Please contact AT&T.

I received a check today. It was for 12 dollars and change. Should I cash it? Doesn't seem like much for what they did.

I received a check, that I have unfortunately lost. How do I get another one sent to me?

Please contact AT&T.

I was a customer for 31 years. Thru penalizing me for being located in an analog area. Digital under $100. Analog over a $1000. & thru paying extra my grandfathered unlimited data enduring constant pressure to give it up, knowing full well smart phs, would require more data use. Bz model seems to seduce on new customers (future victims) with gimmick marketing, while disrespecting loyal customers. No more.

I haven’t received my check in the time frame posted. Is there contact data available to follow up? I had 5 phones during this era. Is the award based on number of lines?
