WARNING: Email from FTC Chair Lina M. Khan about Coronavirus money is fake

Scammers are impersonating FTC Chair Lina M. Khan in a new phishing scheme. The email says the FTC wants to send you Coronavirus relief funds and tells you to send some personal information, like your name, address, and date of birth. The FTC is not distributing Coronavirus economic stimulus or relief money to people. The email is a scam. Don’t reply.

If you get an unexpected email that asks you to reply – or call or click a link – to give somebody personal or financial information, don’t. It’s probably a phishing scam trying to steal your money.

Report the phishing email to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and forward it to the Anti-Phishing Working Group at reportphishing@apwg.org. (If scammers contact you by text message or phone, report that, too.)

Thank you for being the voice of wisdom

I haven't gotten this one yet, but I get plenty of what must be phishing scam emails. I get emails that supposedly come from a bank that says my account has been put on hold and I have to click on a link to give them information. These emails always com from a "bank" at which I do not have an account.

I also get similar emails that supposedly come from Paypal. I do have a paypal account so all I have to do is log in to my account (without clicking on anything in the email, of course). I can check and see that my account has not been closed, put on hold or anything else.

Thank you for informing us of all these schemes. Most of the time I realize the threat when I see it; but some of these fakes are really good. You all really help us keep on our toes - again, thank you.

I have reported several instances that have happened to me. The last six or eight months I get 15 to 20 emails that I just delete. I do not open. You would not believe what some say as who they are coming from, etc. Of course, I am sure others are getting the same. Do Not Open even if just a name .

Thanks for this valuable information!!

I found out that he die, not sure if its the truth, I didn't give money. Its terrible that we have to be careful to fine someone who is honest. Thank you for listening
