    • Writers will produce examples that illustrate the following discourse classifications; by the completion of the grade, writers will be able to write persuasive, informative, and expressive pieces. (1.3)
    • Students understand that persuasive writing is audience-centered; the needs of the intended audience are the most important consideration. Students understand that persuasive writing involved taking a position on a debatable issue in order to convince an audience. (Purpose).
    • Students understand that writing has an intended audience. In order to meet the needs of that audience, students: 1) Write in a manner that makes sense to readers, 2) Write to audiences that are "familiar" if not "known" personalities (e.g. classmate, teacher, parent, student in another grade/school, principal, sibling, community member, famous person known to all)
