We recently wrote about steps that the FTC took to stop MOBE, an internet business-coaching scheme that was promoting a bogus online business opportunity to retirees and veterans. We’ve gotten a lot of questions from MOBE customers on our consumer blog and business blog. Here’s what you need to know if you were a MOBE customer.

Status of the FTC Lawsuit against MOBE

The FTC filed its lawsuit against MOBE in June 2018 and the case is ongoing. At the FTC’s request, the Court has temporarily suspended MOBE’s business operations.

The FTC’s primary goals in these types of cases are to stop companies from breaking the law, and to recover money that the company should not be allowed to keep. The Court will decide what we can do in MOBE.

Status of Refunds

It could take several months, if not longer, to resolve the case against MOBE. If the lawsuit results in refunds, we will tell you in the FTC's consumer blog. We’ll use information from MOBE’s database to identify customers who lost money and are eligible for a refund. At that time, you might need to give information to verify your claim. But not right now.

What to Do Now to Get a Refund

Nothing. You don’t have to do anything right now to request a refund. If you hear that you have to send a request to get a refund, it’s not true. That could be scammers trying to steal your personal or financial information. If there are refunds, the FTC will tell you if you need to do anything. But right now, there’s nothing for you to do.

Amount of Refunds

If there are refunds for MOBE customers, each person’s refund may depend on several things, including: how much the defendants are able to pay; how much the court orders for refunds; how many people lost money; and how much each person lost.

Timing of Refunds

If the Court orders refunds for MOBE customers, we will send out checks as soon as we can. There are several steps, including getting the money and information from the company, getting the checks ready, and mailing them. Those steps often take several months.

What to Do If You Were a MOBE Customer

  • Report your MOBE experience to the FTC: ftc.gov/complaint. This information may help the FTC in its case against MOBE. Your report also makes sure the FTC can contact you, if necessary.
  • If you were a MOBE customer outside the United States, you also may want to report to the consumer protection agency in your country. For more information about reporting international scams, go to econsumer.gov.
  • Save your documentation. Save any emails, documents or receipts relating to MOBE. If the case results in refunds for MOBE customers, your records could help you prove how much you paid. That could be a factor in how much money you could get back.

I was a mobe client and I invested about $37,000. I'm so upset to know this so called business was a scam. This is the first time I invested into anything like this and knowing this mobe was in the business for about 9 years and now get caught is a shame. I thought finally something good like this had to be legitimate with all the ads and etc I thought wow I'll invest and hope to become wealthy. Boy did I learn a $37,000 lesson. Well please place me on the list for the refund. David A

I had to sign a purchase agreement with ABF Services, LLC, 24 South Front Street, Bergenfield, NJ 07621, to make payments on MOBE's Silver/Gold Masterclass program. They have drafted against my Debit Card monthly since 01/09/2018 in the amount of $285.13 with an initial payment of $570.26. They have never mentioned to me about this MOBE FTC case and are still wanting to draft against my card. Because the receiver says to stop all payments I have done just that by changing my debit cards, but they are still pursuing me for payment adding additional fees. What am I to do? Are you even aware of the companies MOBE is using to extract payments for their high ticket affiliate programs? I now have no access to any MOBE tools to utilize the Silver/Gold Masterclass level I'v been making payments for since 01/09/2018. When MOBE's assets were frozen and business operations halted, why wasn't the continued payment services halted as well? Please respond. Than k you.

You can report your experience to the FTC at www.FTC.gov/Complaint. You can give your contact information if you choose, tell how much paid and provide other details.

The Court appointed a Receiver to take control of the defendants' assets. You can get information from the Receiver's website: www.bernet-receiver.com.

All 21 Step Customers were told to read 5 books, which we also had to order, read, and there were charges for monthly publication by MOBE we were told to buy for each level with that cost a lot more for each upward pyramid level... The Web site of MOBE was all in a new Beta version by the time the receiver saw it, as MOBE had just switched the old site to the new Beta versio so don't know which servers housed the old site versions. Coaches through Zoom or Skype told us which books to order and read and one book was named Limitless by Matt Lloyd. www. imFreedomWorshop. com was another site for getting people started in the Freedom workshops. This was a registration web site that drew people to local events. Those customer mail lists could have been at several email responder programs know by the accountants. I told my husband I would not spend a dime past Silver and Gold if I could start making sales and my coach cut me off when I said, I make sales or invest no more than I already invested at Gold.. why but more if no sale was working by following their direction. I didn't see people rushing to buy because it was a good plan. Everyone I asked about it, including a lawyer told me to STOP, even a college student in first year of business called it a bad scheme that would fail. Red Lights seen, then the web site changed to the Beta of the new site pages, and it was suddenly shut down. Whew.. Lost no more than 3K in total costs which I took out of investments. I'm disabled and had no work for 13 years except that savings which I risked...thinking my sales will generate more money to invest as my sales grow. :-(

I took a training course and they were constantly trying to get you to infest ridiculous amount of $ to buy in. I had paid $2500.00 for the training courses which left you feeling that there was more going on that what you were seeing so I bailed out with a cash loss, the training just seemed to keep you in the dark

Same here. I was very disappointed with the way MOBE let us down and saddened to discover Matt and his team would do such thing. This was truly one of the best learning experiences of my life and I am choosing to remain positive throughout it all. I had to find it in my heart to forgive Matt and his team, and move forward. -One of the best life lessons I've ever purchased. Keep your head up all! Good thing are one the way! Peace & Prosperity

I had exact experience. When I realized, i have to spend more after investing $2500 for advertisements, i had to back up. I asked them for refund nobody helped me because MOBE said, I have to show the system does not work for 12 months of consistent use. I did not had money to even use the system. I did not knew where to go after that. I would, like to get a refund because I saved that money with a lot of effort.

My husband and I went to a super charge event in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year. After 4 days of 10-12 hour days of talking and convincing us to go big for the big commissions and meeting with their people in the back of the room, we were shown how we could use other people's money to work for us and achieve financial freedom. We signed up for their training package and the total amount we would need to fund reaching the Diamond level was $85,000. Of course we didn't have that, but they gave us a plan on how to acquire those funds. We did this through loans(secured and unsecured), 401K, and multiple credit cards. We were referred to one of the companies that they work with to repair our credit so we could get more credit cards. That cost us $3500 apiece not including taking more money out of a $401K to pay down previous credit debt. They then applied to over 20 credit card companies on our behalf and we were approved and received loans and credit for over $100000. We had incurred that debt and we were just about to get started when MOBE was shut down. We now have a huge debt, with no way to pay it back and we did not receive any training or any money back from MOBE. So much for retiring this year.

I am 71 years old and retired. I started with MOBE because I was looking for additional income. After buying in to the Silver/Gold Masterclass I became enrolled in what they called 21 Step Training. My initial impression was that this system had real possibilities except they were very vague about what exactly I would be selling online. We had weekly ZOOM meetings with a coach that in looking back was "brain washing" us. It was about mindset, etc. etc. but never about how and what we would be selling. They talked about people becoming millionaires using the MOBE system. They kept pressing for people to join at the Diamond level promising huge returns on each sale as opposed to the lower levels such as Silver/Gold, Titanium, and Platinum. I felt that if I was serious about creating an online business I was going to go for the highest return at the Diamond level. The Diamond buyin was around $60,000. To do this I took out a mortgage on my house for the $60,000, a house that I owned free and clear. Foolish Me. Once I bought in at the Diamond Level pressure was applied to get a mentor who would help us get set up quickly and provide us with the tools to succeed. This service was at a grand price of approximately $5,000. Now the message changed. If you don't get a mentor there was no way for you to succeed. This service I did not pay for but I know of some who did. Also once I paid for Diamond level the next step was to be "Traffic Training" with a Traffic Coach. That is when I felt that MOBE had their money and I got dropped. I waited almost 6 weeks before I was assigned a Traffic Coach who did not at that time actually start training until I listened to various online tutorials requiring many many hours of listening to online tutorials which required that I set up many different vendor accounts (at fees to the vendors) to be able to integrate the MOBE System. Additional costs beyond this included payinjg Facebook for advertising. I now am paying a monthly amount for the mortgage I took out to pay for the MOBE System. I live on Social Security and some income from my investments and IRA. It has become harder than ever to meet my monthly expenses without the income I thought my MOBE business would provide. I am madder than hell about this swindle. The only one getting richer was Matt Lloyd and others in his organization. Just sign me FOOLISH ME

I too, was swindled by this outfit! I have to say, they were very good at making you feel they were sincere. I had never been swindled before. I thought I was too smart to fall for such fraud. I had gone as far as the platinum and was out of options but they kept pushing me to go diamond saying I could use more credit cards and sell my Harley. They made it sound like diamond was the answer and my windfall was just around the corner. I ended up loosing my bike and also filing bankruptcy then almost lost my house of 46 years that my late husband and I built. I then became ill and had to quit my job. I am in a bad situation from mobe. I have never filed for bankruptcy in all the years that I have been on my own. I cannot work now due to my illnesses. Pause I am now 70 years old and my previous employer won’t hire me at my age. I have filed a complaint with FTC.

The FTC filed its lawsuit against MOBE in June 2018. The case is still going on. At the FTC’s request, the Court temporarily suspended MOBE’s business operations.

It could take several months, or more to resolve the case against MOBE. If the lawsuit results in refunds, we will publish another blog.  If the FTC needs information from people who lost money and who are eligible for a refund, we will them at that time.

As stated in one of the pervious messages, I too am indebted to ABF Services for payments towards Silver/Gold programs. They claim that they have no connection to MOBE but I was directed to them through MOBE programming. WHAT AM I TO DO AT THIS STAGE? I have submitted a report about MOBE on the appropriate complaint site but my question is about getting out of the obligation to which ABF Services is holding me. Any direction would be appreciated. Thank you Bridget - and yes, I have submitted a formal complaint to the FTC. My earlier comment here mostly concerned my payments to the 3rd party funding company. My query was as to whether I should continue monthly payments to them in the sum of $285.13. I have six (6) payments balanced to them. Thanks.

I am one of the new members who joined in December, 2017. Someone sent me an informal email telling me about this online work. At the time, my job had closed down for sometime and I was really looking for work online. So late last year, 2017, I was looking at the different ads about working online, but I did not like anything that I saw. So when I got that last email, I decide to listen to what was said on the video, and thought about it for several days before I decide to fill out the form and send it in. On that form, it asked me about income, so I told the truth of how much I might be able to invest, which was the lowest on the list. I really was not expecting them to even respond because of the low amount that I entered. But they did, send me information and at that time, I had paid the lowest fee to join. It was now January, 2018 when I was then assigned to a coach, who started me off with a 21 steps program. When I reached the sixth step, she told me that there is a big discount on a starter program called the gold and silver masterclass, which include a few books to read, plus a free book called Limitless that was sent to me later, after receiving the large package in January. She told me that the total cost for this program would be over $3,500 plus an inner circle magazine, which was monthly, but was better to pay for a year, instead of monthly. At point, it was so hard for me to pay that much to start, and I hesitated for a couple minutes, then I decide to take the chance and try to do this, not knowing what would happen later on. I continued to be with her for a few more steps, and then I was assigned to a senior coach for the rest of the steps through the end. While I was with this senior coach, he gave me a form later to complete, asking me a few questions, and also about my income. I told him that I have very little in my life right now, and things were not going so well because I was not getting an income. However, later on, he told me that in order to get ahead and make the highest commissions, is to position myself in the company. He told me that MOBE has a company that could get funding for members. Now, I was under the impression that the company would be giving us funding, so I told him yes, I would not mind getting the funding. I did not realize that the funding would be getting credit cards, that was what this company does for the company's members. They apply for credit cards for us. So when some of the companies respond to the application for cards, they would tell the amount of the credit limit. So when I got the cards, I would call the coach's team assistant and let her know of the amount. At the time, I did not know that I was paying for the complete programs that he was talking about, which are the platinum, titanium and diamond mastermind programs. The diamond mastermind is the most expensive. I paid a total of around $65,000 for all the programs. I thought that when I received the gold and silver masterclass, and I read through those, then I would move on to the next program, which is the platinum. I was not expecting it to go that way, but he used the credit cards to pay for the complete programs. I do have all the paperwork, receipts, for all the transactions. In the meantime, I was told to start placing ads on Facebook, because while we are training, we must not wait for us to finish the training, we must start to place ads, so I learned to do that. I was with a traffic coach now, who helped me to place the ads, and coached me when I had problems. I will tell you, those Facebook ads turned out to be very expensive in the end, and we had to spend our own money to pay for those ads, and the ones I placed cost over $3,000. When I looked in my account with the company to see if I was making any money, I saw something, but nothing to speak of. However, until this day, I did not make any kind of money where I could try to pay on those credit cards, so I was stuck to pay them, and that put me in debt. Before that, I had written to the senior coach and told him that I won't be able to pay for all those cards, and ask him if MOBE would pay the credit card bills when I get them, because it was going to be very hard on me, and if and when I make any money, then I would pay them back. But he did not respond to my letter. After that I heard that every member went through the same way of funding, with credit cards, even the traffic coach that I had, he told me that, that was not easy at all, it was hard for him too, and all those who became a success in this business. As a matter of fact, when I had a meeting with him on skype on June 4, 2018, that was our meeting place, it was a few days later that I got an email from him and the senior coach telling us that there was a problem with the MOBE servers, and that Matt Lloyd was working very hard to restore service. Then later on I received another letter stating that MOBE was shut down by the FTC, and that was the only thing they heard and was able to tell us, so everything was closed, and if I wanted to reach the coach and the billing department, I would not be able to reach them. It was very unfortunate that this situation happened, because I wanted to reach them to ask them to refund my money, since I am one of them that did not succeed. There were so many who really succeeded and is doing extremely well, they are the lucky ones who had joined a few years ago. Today, I have not heard anything about what was going on, until I decide to check the Facebook, and saw what was said. I am just curious, has anyone who became really rich or successful ever asked to come forward to say anything to the FTC, or that the FTC do not know about the success stories?

Shaqir has also been travelling around the world promoting his Products and MOBE in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, London, Toronto ..... so im certain many others have also been affected/Scammed. I wrote a comment as a MOBE customer on October 2nd and then on October 10, 2018. I have not had a response. Why was my comment about my experience ignored, and especially when I lost a lot of money in the amount of $65,000. Can someone please let me know if there is a possibility of my getting back my money. Today, I am in deep debt because of the credit cards funding that they told me to get in order to pay for the complete programs that they have. They are the Silver and Gold Masterclass, the Titanium, Platinum and Diamond Mastermind Programs. I started a 21 Step Program, and then I was told by my coach that to be "positioned" in the company, would enable me to get the highest commission paid when a product is sold, plus other benefits that someone who was not as positioned would not get. I started running ads on Facebook in February, 2018, for about three and a half months, which came to over $3,000 which I had to pay from my pocket. I am one of them that did not make any money from this. I have all the transaction receipts that had taken place to show the amount that was spent. I am hoping that someone will respond to me this time.

I'm the accredited investor In mobe, mattloyd had asked me to invest $100,000 in his serenity island from my accredited investor. Subject of the message for signify the agreement to invest my $100,000 in his serenity island from my accredited investor. Date 4/june/2018 6:39 pm. [Consultants] I might have an investment opportunity for you... Message on that day from the mattloyd. Hey, If you're looking for a real estate investment opportunity, you're in a position to invest a minimum of $100,000, and you're an accredited investor, I have something you might be interested in. I'm going to be starting an investment fund, to be used for the development of the major new resort on Serenity Island. We've got a LOT of renovations and extensions planned, and it's going to cost a lot of money. As well as my own money and bank financing, I want to open up the fund to high net worth individuals in my personal network and let them share in the returns. I explain the idea (a lot of the finer details will be worked out these next few months), in this video. Don't Miss The First Titanium Mastermind on Serenity Island in June!! The first Diamond Mastermind on Serenity Island just ended on the 1st of June. It went extremely well - people truly loved the island, and within days of getting home were commenting on Facebook how they missed Fiji, and wanted to go back. The next mastermind is the Titanium Mastermind which will be explosive! I usman I believed with the mattloyd to invest that money in his serenity island, because he said it's going to cost a lot of money. As well as my own money and bank financing. Hope i will get my money back.

OH MY-AND HERE I WAS THINKING HOW COULD THIS HAVE GONE SO WRONG FOR ME, AND NOW HERE I READ OF SO MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABUSED AS WELL. MY FIRST CONTACT WITH MOBE WAS ON A FACEBOOK POST BY ONE OF ITS MEMBERS. AFTER READING THROUGH, I DECIDED 49.00 DOLLARS WAS A SMALL AMOUNT TO PAY TO SEE IF THIS WAS LEGIT. I HAD BEEN SEARCHING FOR A PART TIME STAY AT HOME INCOME TO SUPPLEMENT MY RETIREMENT INCOME. SO I WENT TO THE IM FREEDOM WORKSHOP, HEARD THINGS I THOUGHT WAS UP AND UP. SO I PAID THE 497.00 ON MY CREDIT CARD TO ATTEND THE HOME BUSINESS SUMMIT A FEW WEEKS DOWN THE ROAD. I ATTENDED, SAW ALL THE POSTINGS OF THOSE WHO HAD SUCCEEDED, EDUCATED AS TO WHAT I WOULD BE GETTING INTO, AND AGAIN THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD THING. THIS IS WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE 21 STEPS., SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT AFTER THE FREEDOM WORKSHOP, EXCEPT AT THAT TIME I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY EMAIL ACCOUNT. HAD TO GO TO APPLE TO GET IT RESOLVED-MEANTIME I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF 21 STEPS. ANYWAY, SAT DOWN WITH ANGEL TO DISCUSS FUNDING. CREDIT CHECK SAID I QUALIFIED FOR 40-50K FUNDING, SO I SAID LETS GO FOR DIAMOND SINCE THAT HAD SUCH GREAT COMMISSIONS. WENT BACK TO MY SEAT AND GOT CALLED BACK AGAIN TO BE TOLD I WOULD PROBABLY BE BETTER AT PLATINUM TO START. SAID OK. PAID 5000.00 DOWN, 2000.00 IN CASH, 3000.00 ON CREDIT CARD. TOLD A BUSINESS COACH WOULD BE IN TOUCH AND JAMES AT SEED CAPITAL WOULD BE CALLING TO GET MY FUNDING. IN SHORT I ENDED UP WITH 21000.00 IN CREDIT CARDS, SO I DIDN'T EVEN GET THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF FUNDING. STARTED 21 STEPS AFTER CONTACT WITH COACH, TOLD TO READ 3 BOOKS ALONG THE WAY. FINALLY GOT MY CREDIT CARDS AND WAS BILLED FOR 7718.82 OVER THE PHONE WITH MY COACH. AT THAT POINT I TOLD IVONNE I NEED TO STAY AT TITANIUM SINCE I DIDN'T GET FULL FUNDING. SHE SAID SHE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. SHORTLY THERE AFTER I LOST CONTACT WITH HER(SHE LEFT MOBE) AND ENDED UP ON STEP 12 INTO THE NEXT STEPS PAST 21 STEPS . AT THAT POINT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT SO I FINALLY CALLED MOBE AND LEFT MESSAGE. FEW DAYS GOT A RETURN CALL; IN SHORT TOLD TRAFFIC COACH WOULD BE IN TOUCH. SHE TOLD ME TO STOP WHAT I WAS DOING. SAID I NEEDED TO GET MY FUNNEL SET UP AND MOBE COULD DO IT QUICKLY FOR AROUND 1200.00 TO AVOID DELAY AND MISTAKES ON MY PART. GOT ON SITE SEVERAL TIMES TO FILL OUT INFO BUT WAS DENIED, SAYING I WAS BLACKBALLED. CALLED MOBE, LADY SAID I WASN'T BLACKBALLED, SAID SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME TO WORK WITH ME ON IT. DIDN'T HAPPEN. LEFT A COUPLE EMAIL'S. MEANTIME, THROUGH IT ALL I AM BEING CALLED BY IMRAN FROM HEADQUARTERS THAT I NEED TO SET UP PAYMENTS TO PAY FOR PLATINUM. TOLD HIM MY CONFERENCE WITH IVONNE ABOUT TITANIUM, BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH. SO SETTLED ON 1000.00 A MONTH PAYMENTS AND THEN 500.00 PAYMENTS. MADE 2 FOR 1000.00 AND NOW MOBE IS SHUT DOWN. SO IM A LITTLE LUCKY WHEN I CONSIDER SOME OF THESE OTHER STORIES. I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. THE MINDSET THEY GET YOU INTO MADE IT HARD TO SEE BEYOND THE FOREST. I PAID OUT LITTLE OVER 14000.00. IM GLAD I DIDN'T USE ANY OF THE CREDIT CARD SPACE I HAD AT THE TIME. I FIGURED I MIGHT NEED THAT FOR BUYING TRAFFIC, ETC. WITH THE CREDIT CARD BILLS COMING IN AT THIS POINT I HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK. I CASHED IN SOME EQUITY FROM MY HOME TO PAY OFF THE CREDIT CARDS WHICH HAD 20% INTEREST RATES FOR THE EQUITY LOAN AT 4.50%. SAVED ME SOME MONEY THERE. WORKING AGAIN TO GET THIS PAID OFF SO MY MORTGAGE WONT WEIGH ME DOWN WHEN I CAN RETIRE AGAIN. HARD LESSON TO SWALLOW. DID I SAY HARD LESSON TO SWALLOW?!!!

I wrote a comment as a MOBE customer many times the last time around June 2018. I have not had a response. Why was my comment about my experience ignored, and especially when I lost a lot of money in the amount of over $16,000. Since I am not able to repaid the credit cards I have ruin credit. Can someone please let me know if there is a possibility of my getting back my money. Today, I am in deep debt because of the credit cards funding that they told me to get in order to pay for some of this programs that they have. They are the Silver and Gold Masterclass, the Titanium,Programs. I started a 21 Step Program, and then I was told by my coach that to be "positioned" in the company, would enable me to get the highest commission paid when a product is sold, plus other benefits that someone who was not as positioned would not get. I spend so much more money in getting leads and more. I am 70 on social security and could use the refund when it happen thanks

The FTC filed its lawsuit against MOBE in June, 2018. The case is still going on. At the FTC’s request, the Court temporarily suspended MOBE’s business operations.

It could take several months - or more - to resolve the case against MOBE. If there will be refunds after the lawsuit, we will publish a new blog with information. If there are refunds, the FTC will use information from MOBE’s database to identify customers who lost money and are eligible for a refund.

I had paid the up to Titanium position, and lost as much as $26.000 I am from the UK and noticed that when I had recruited two people they never helped them I then decided that to keep my integrity I would not promote them. I complained numerous times to them and no help. In addition the so called mentor did not help I felt it was a team of people who was only concerned with making money for themselves instead of helping people make money at their particular stage be it gold, silver to platinum. So really disappointed in MOBE.

I have spent $30,000 to get their Platinum Position. I have probably lost a total of $45,000. They never helped me to establish my business what I was promised. I don't know how am I going to get my money back.

I lost 7000 dollars with this so called company, all the promises turned out to be all lies. every time I called them for help all they wanted me to do was spend more money, this is really sad for lots of people that believed in them to try and make there lives better but got screwed instead.

You can report your experience to the FTC at www.FTC.gov/Complaint. This information may help the FTC in its case against MOBE. Your report also makes sure the FTC can contact you, if necessary.

I also was a client of Mobe. I'd like a refund as well. I'm very disappointed.

I did the same as many others, fell prey to the scam of extra income and having my own business. I started with MOBE roughly December 2016 investing almost $2,600.00 then the books and moved up to Titanium totaling over $14,000.00 invested without ever seeing 1 cent in return. I was in a Florida event where they wanted me to go 'Diamond' to have the best chance of making a return on my already large investment; Luckily for me before I gathered the money to 'invest' the FTC shut them down... I filled out the report back in June 2018 and have since been hoping to recoup some if not all the monies lost. I am just hoping we all can find some relief at the end of this tunnel. God bless

Hi lost everything. I invested everything I owned into MOBE. It shut down before I managed to get my Facebook page up. Can anyone find any new information about what's happening with MOBE refunds

This blog tells you how to find out more about the FTC’s lawsuit against MOBE on the website of the court-appointed receiver, Mark Bernet. Go to www.bernet-receiver.com/appointments/mobe/.

At the FTC’s request, the Court appointed the receiver to take over the operations and secure the assets of MOBE.
